  1. Oh, but I drink tap water, through a Brita filter. Never seen one turn pink though!
  2. Yep, you can always tell when something must have fallen in the water supply: they boost the heck out of the chlorine levels. At least, that's what my buddy who sets up and maintains water systems for most of the Vail valley says.
  3. I would say the biggest cause of "artifacts/noise" in an MP3 files would be bad encoding. The emusic MP3s used to be hit or miss. Some were okay, some sucked. This was when they were all 128kb CBR. Now they're using the Lame encoder with a VBR that makes much better sounding MP3s. They re-encoded most of their files, but some have not be upgraded. The VBR ones sound purty darn good....for an MP3...
  4. Okay, someone needs to 'fess up. Who wrote this piece of brilliance?
  5. You guys fuckin' crack me up!
  6. Kind Of Blue Totally reeled me in, in the spring of 1998. I had found the Columbia Years boxed set at the library, ON CASSETTE! That got me started, so I bought my own Kind Of Blue and then I never looked back! I completely pursued all the Miles I could find for about a year and a half, then started delving into the music of his sidemen, and so on. Now I've probably got about 3000 or more jazz cds. It used to be my main focus and I ignored rock/pop for awhile. But now I spend my time listening to both about 50/50. I'm glad I started listening when I did, as it was around the same time that the jazz reissues market really started cranking out the remasters. Because of this, I was able to avoid most of the older issues and get the newer 20/24 bit remasters. But, I've also learned that just cuz it says 20/24 bit remaster, doesn't always mean you're gonna like what you hear. I now know more about whose mastering work I like and don't like.
  7. Avery Media has great software and perforated inserts that are photo quality and work great. It's free software at Avery Media Very easy to learn too.
  8. Just sent an email re: Art Pepper SACD. Thanks!
  9. I'd only pay that much for the TOCJ or the JRVG.
  10. 'fraid I hafta agree. I'm not exactly saying this album is "bad", but rather that it doesn't do anything for me. WAY too mellow... ...so much so, that it always puts me to sleep. ZZZZzzzzzzzz........ That's what I always use it for.
  11. Wow! Street Singer wins! And I thought I got a good deal through Red Trumpet! Nice score.
  12. What jazzbo (lonson) said. I listened to it this morning after reading your inquiry, ubu. Maybe not side 1(first two tracks are weird, to me), but side 2 is definitely a spiritual offering, Alice Coltrane style. I loved it again! Especially with the subwoofer on! I can feel COSMIC vibrations!
  13. Wow! That's cool!
  14. FWIW, I used to be selimsivad back on Napster! Welcome Selim and post often. (P.S.) Anyone here used to be on Napster with the screen name of "schmorr"? He and I would trade Miles Davis bootlegs all the time...cool dude. B)
  15. Tony, That Universal Consciousness cd will make your whole listening room vibrate with Ms. Coltrane's sprituality!!
  16. Smoke? Why, yes, yes they do... B)
  17. Happy birthday to one of the great ones! Hope yer day is awesome John, you deserve it.
  18. Have a good one Jim!
  19. And me last summer. Morning, time to get out of the box.
  20. Okay, here's Shelley & me, at a cabin in the mountains. Back in 1994, before we married in May of '96.
  21. Dan, I am also behind a firewall. I did not need to shut it off to download the concert. The issue with the firewall only comes into play if you want to host a file for others to download. It seemed to me that was the catch: You have to host the files for others as well. Wouldn't you have to disable the firewall to do this?
  22. Oh, and by the way, it kicks ass!
  23. Tjazz, Can you figure out the promotion code for that one? No code. BMG changes their online deals constantly. Today the deal doesn't include free shipping. Also, another account had buy 1 get 2 free. Now it's buy 2, get 3 free. New CDs available: Heart - Live in Seatle Anne Lenox - Dare Steely Dan - EVERYTHING MUST GO Thanks Tjazz, I checked and one of my accounts is offering that deal as well, the $4.99/no shipping. On a side note: That Heart "Alive in Seattle" disc is a hybrid SACD, one of Sony's first ones. Is this the first and only SACD available through BMG? I wonder if it truly is the hybrid disc...?
  24. What does 'OBI' stand for? Seriously, I don't know. I've always been too embarrassed to ask. Additionally, what is the point of having the strip on the Japanese releases? The US RVGs don't have the strip. I'll take a stab at this one... I believe obi is a Japanese word for the sash that goes around a kimono (robe). But please, someone tell me is this is incorrect. As far as the purpose? That's pretty subjective. One cool thing it can offer is to have the barcode on the obi, and not on the artwork itself, like on the JRVG series of mini-lps. Of course, some fans as well like to roll up an obi, and smoke them... B)
  25. Tjazz, Can you figure out the promotion code for that one?
