disc of ProJazz record label?

I have this one on Cassette, of all formats: -
I believe that Dave Pike lives in the Bay Area.
-
Nope! But he played with Herbie Mann! Now I have it (I think). It's Dave Pike. By the way, earlier this year a fan of Joe Locke's, who is a senior VP of the company that owns the Empire State Building, to me, Joe, Clarence Penn and some of our families, way above the observation deck you see here. I mean right under the conning tower you see on top, with only a knee high wall separating us from flying off the building. Locke and I were scared shitless! Clarence and the others were fearless, including my daughter who kept leaning over that short wall to take photos!

Perhaps you could share the sites you have sleuthed and your reasoning that this is a case of mistaken identity? Unless the news reports are getting it very badly wrong, the Bill Barton we know was the one arrested in Washington, he was a registered offender, his alleged screen name is the same as the Youtube screen name of someone who likes some pretty niche jazz, and his disappearance matches the time of his arrest. And Chuck has apparently found his mugshot, so it doesn't seem likely that the "mistaken identity" could be on the part of anyone but the authorities. Given that there are over 700,000 registered sex offenders in the US I would think that "let's double-check and make sure we're arresting the right offender by this name" would be rather standard procedure for law enforcement. Is there some reason you have to doubt this beyond "it can't possibly be the Bill Barton we know because he was such a nice guy"? You're reading too much into my brief statement. I'm not saying Bill isn't the guy in the indictment. There's a data base, by State, for registered sex offenders. It's easy to look it up. Here's one of at least two guys named William Barton: Creep -

I'm thinking this is a mix up with another William Barton from somewhere in the South. That's what I saw when I did a little internet sleuthing. -

I don't know how I recognized Jean Shrimpton, so I looked her up to make sure, and I found this: Hell, I'm not as handsome as I was in my 20's either! This one is better:

I recently had the opportunity to see some photos in the Sony production files that look like the 1961 Miles Davis at Carnegie Hall concert/recording with the Gil Evans Orch and his current quintet of the time. Maybe those are coming out again with some new music and better sound.

He, for a short while, used to run the gift shop at JALC (it's gone now, I believe). Those items that are signed by Wynton, hung on the walls of that space and are left over from then, hence the signatures. It is a little squirrelly, though.

I was going to hold my opinion to myself since Tom asked for recommendations but... I have to say that I find Herring's playing at his very best predictable and at his worst, just plain role playing/boring. He's a graduate of West Point I believe, so draw your own conclusions.

Nica's Dream
marcello replied to fasstrack's topic in Jazz In Print - Periodicals, Books, Newspapers, etc...
When I put the address in one of those satellite servers. It didn't look like the same house at all. At least not from above! But now that you mentioned it I looked a little harder and see that the heirs still are owners of record and that maybe the satellite showed the wrong house. As you can see ( I hope) the hose to the north is the one I was referring to, and the one just below or to the south, is much smaller than the other and it looks like it could be Nica's house. I just read the book and agree with the review, but it's nice to a little more information after all. I also got the feeling that the author is not a "bone fide" jazz fan, or that he really know about the music and the history. By the way, I don't believe that Nica's Weehawken house is there any more. I think it has at least been a tear down. -
My wife wishes she was in the Bay Area, Brooks! It was over 100 here today.

Picking up what I heard in Alan Bergman's office ( who represents the Monk estate in these matters), I believe that in fact, Concord did actually pass on the Monk/Trane release. It went to the highest bidder.
