  1. Nothing that I know of. There was a European tour with Tommy Flanagan ( with George Mraz on bass, who told me a funny road story about Joe Hen the other night), but none with Hank Jones.
  2. Happy Birthday, Mike!!
  3. I agree. A great recording!
  4. I'll be at Dizzy's while Joe Locke is playing there (Feb. 15 - 20) with vocalist Kenny Washington, Geoffrey Keezer, George Mraz and Clarence Penn, and after hours Christos Rafalides is playing the late night sets with his Manhattan Vibes band. If you dig the vibes, it's the place to be. Thursday ( Feb. 17), after the last set, Joe and I are going down to Smalls to hear Hal Galper who will have our Seattle friends John Bishop (drums) and Jeff Johnson (bass). John is also one of the owners of the Origin Records label.
  5. Bobby has been ill with emphysema for quite some time, but soldiers on. Here he is burnin' with Joe Locke on Mr. PC from, I believe, 2007: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1HlNHMT2-tg

  13. I'm sure it relates to a recording that made a deal with the AFM, late in the last recording/broadcast ban in the 1940's.
  14. Happy Birthday, Tom!!
  15. I think I mentioned this before, but I have this one, but with a defective pressing. 75% of it comes out of one channel!
  16. Here's a very good later group with Tom Harrell, Steve Goodwin and Joe La Barbera: Here's a closeup of the pin he was wearing:
  17. "Personnel includes: Ella Fitzgerald (vocals); Ronnie Lang (alto saxophone); Bob Cooper (tenor saxophone); Don Fagerquist (trumpet); Alvin Stoller (drums); The Nelson Riddle Orchestra."
