  1. Thanks Chris, but it's Curtis LUNDY. I saw his sister Carmen, last month.
  2. Nice observation. (not your post Allen, but you're nice too)
  3. Unless you give permission for a trojan like this (if there really is one) to enter your computer, you have no problem. With Windows, all you don't have this added security: The "OSX/Hovdy-A Trojan" referred to in the article has never been seen in the wild. In fact, it is not even a proof-of-concept malware. As reported here on FR, Hovdy-A was merely a discussion in a hackers forum about how malware writers MIGHT exploit a newly found vulnerability in OSX. They postulated that it might be included in an Applescript that someone might download... another suggested that it be put into an Application—he suggested a Poker game. Some even went so far as to write some sample scripts... none of which were actually workable. The list of things that Hovdy-A "does": disable system logging and delete system log files start PHPShell and web server start ARD, VNC and SSH services disable system updates open ports in the firewall disable third party security software install LogKext keylogger steal various password hashes and keys which may be used to compromise other systems was merely speculation offered by various comments on the thread about the ARDAgent vulnerability. The fact is that it does NONE of those things. The last comment in the Sophos listing for OSX.Hovdy-A, "OSX/Hovdy-A will also attempt to use the ARDAgent vulnerability to obtain root access," is particularly funny—it is ONLY through exploiting the ARDAgent;s permission to run as ROOT would it be able do ANY of the preceding list items! If this "trojan" could do all of what was listed, it would have garnered a far higher threat rating than "slightly-higher-than-low." The vulnerability can be negated by simply moving ARDAgent to another directory, renaming ARDAgent, changing the permissions of ARDAgent, or merely running ARDAgent for yourself.
  4. There's a old saying:"A contract is only as good as the people that sign it'. That said, you should have a contract for concerts/festivals. I always ask for 50% 60 days before the performance date for my clients. That way there is no last minute bullshit and/or incompetence to deal with. Oh, and I ask to be paid the balance on arival or before the soundcheck.

    Ron Carter

Mike Richmond has that type of bass also.
  6. They could have cut at least 20 minutes out of it. SS is right about all of the end being a set up for a sequel about Two Face. It really got to be too much for my tastes. I usually don't like movies like this. I'd rather just read a comic book, but that's been a long, long time.
  7. Was he the guy who had the microphone that looked like a rifle? Jep, he was.
  8. If I remember right, Prestige. put out a collection like this sometime in the 60's ( at least it was all ballads), when they were milking their Miles Davis archives for all they were worth. I sent the page with the typos to Nick Phillips at Concord to correct. Nick is a fine person and has been at Concord for over 20 years. Jim, that's a worthy idea you have, but as Jack says, not for the novice market.
  9. Well Chris, I bet the glossy covers cost a little bit more than a regular cover. I never liked too many of Phil Bray's photographs at the time, but now I can dig them, but I think Pablo had real style, good style, overall. I feel when they went to color, it was a downgrade. One thing that I never liked, and still don't, was Benny Green's liner notes.
  10. Bill F is correct. Meaning: Of or from Bahia (Salvador), Brazil Pronunciation: bah-hee-AY-nuh
  11. Another favorite: The Trumpet Kings With Joe Turner
  12. Zoot Sims made a number of really fine recordings for Pablo. He may have had the best series of all of the artists on the label:
  13. Dizzy Gillespie's last great record.

    The Arrangers

    Don't forget Thad Jones.
  15. George Benson aint afraid of McCoy Tyner: McCoy McCoy#2 George Benson aint afraid of Davis Budway (Dave is from pittsburg too): David Budway George Benson aint afraid of John McLaughlin: John McLaughlin George Benson aint afraid of Joey DeFrancesco: Joey D
  16. Happy Birthday Guy. Have a great day.
  17. About the cover art, it seems to be "recycled": a few years back LRC released a compilation of Thad Jones/Mel Lewis material with the same cover - "Sonny Lester Collection" I think it was called. Tracks: 1. Groove Merchant 2. Big Dipper 3. Central Park North 4. Tow Away Zone 5. Quietude 6. Jive Samba 7. Dedication 8. It Only Happens Every Time 9. Tiptoe 10. Child Is Born Nice track selection (whole of Central Park North and half of Consummation), sound not as good as the recent Blue Notes. F That's the cover for Thad & Mel Live in Tokyo. I have it on vinyl. Very good record!
  18. I first saw Benson when I worked a a small jazz club in 1970 or so, playing to small houses during the week and decent ones on the weekend. He sang songs in his set way back then and played the shit out the guitar. He's paid his dues. Every once in a while I hear from people about when he sits in from time to time in NYC and they all say he can still play the shit out of the guitar!
  19. Not to be a downer, but Lenny has not been one of the most pleasurable drummers for me for the last several years. I've had the chance to see and hear him more than a few times in those years and I thought that maybe he'd gone soft/sloppy. Maybe this new tour will be a kick in the pants for him. Maybe it's just me. I got comped the new RTF retrospective cd on Concord and have listened to most of it. Even though the band was fun to see live back in the day, today most of it sounds more than a little sophmoric. If a recall, when they played the 2nd acoustic set in their concerts, they got even more of a reaction from the audience than the electric set. Especially when they played in 4/4. I'm sure they were resposible for more than a few jazz converts in their day.
  20. A very Happy Birthday to you, Randy. There's lots of them lately!
  21. Have a Happy Bithday, Jack!
  22. I saw him last year and he sing on most tunes he plays. I think I'll see him again later this year when he's in town. I first saw him when he was with Art Blakey and then with Milt Jackson. He lives in Detroit.
