  1. Hey Bill! Happy Birthday, pal!
  2. Try this: Miles and this: Barnes and Noble or: MTV Circuit City Amazon
  3. Upon This Rock is registered by BMI in Joe Farrell's name. His estate may not own the publishing though. Here's the details: THE MUSIC GOES ROUND B V D/B/A MUSIC IN ONE C/O THIRD TIER MUSIC LLC 1209 16TH AVENUE SOUTH NASHVILLE, TN 37212
  4. A verry Happy Birthday to you, Jim!
  5. Here's another shot... Thanks for the photo research, aparxa!
  6. Maybe... Does anyone else have a opinion?
  7. Last night: Bill Charlap trio at Dizzy's - Peter Washington (bass) & Kenny Washington (drums). For the first couple of tunes they were so blazing fast and synchronized, it was on the verge of being a bore, then Charlap played a intro to Sophisticated Lady that seemed to settled them in and it was jazz piano trio music of the highest level. The set had a interesting mix of tunes with Ellington, Kern, Horace Sliver, Oliver Nelson, Hank Jones etc.
  8. Chuck - I hope you have many more happy birthdays to come.
  9. Dizzy Gillespie with cards and cuban cigar Buffalo, N.Y. 1977

    Deep Purple

I saw them once at a hall full of people puking up Qualudes. It was horrible.
  12. Kenny Washington might be the best male jazz vocalist alive. He's about 4'11", but when you see and hear him perform, he's like the Matterhorn!
  13. I'd like to know that myself. It seems that Percy Faith was the musical director of a show called The Woolworth Hour or The F.W. Woolworth Hour in 1955 - 1956 on CBS. That's all I could find out.
  14. Mine is on vinyl too Marty, but given your comments here, I'll give it another listen. It's been a long time.
  15. What's the "gimmick" & how much cash are we talking about (in both cases)? Seriously. Allen's right. Murray is really a limited musician who goes onto histronics as soon as possible. He milks that for all he can, and can only really do his own thing. Like I said, limited A one trick pony. Sorry David. His reputation has also suffered among musicians as not one who can not interact with others in a professional manner, to put it mildly, or adept at the craft of music making beyond his own thing. The only Shepp that I liked was Four for Trane, and I used to own a few back in the day. Forget Attica Blues. Saw him live a couple of times at the Vanguard that seemed more of a jam than anything. I still have a Denon called A Tray of Silver or something like that, that I should get rid of someday.
  16. The Ruth Brown with Thad and Mel is real fine. "Fine Brown Frame"
  17. More compression was needed when recording Davis with a mute. It can be fucking piercing. I like Quiet Nights more than Sketches Of Spain.
  18. I'm very sorry for you Jim, but you seem to have had a great relationship and the time together to help you get through this. That's more than a lot of Father and Sons.
  19. Flying Dutchman LP, 1971 1 step right up 2 hobo flats 3 gypsy queen (by gabor szabo) 4 love flower (by albert ayler) 5 afrique 6 kilimanjaro 7 african sunrise 8 japan (by pharoah sanders) count basie, oliver nelson, freddy green, norman keenan, john b. williams, harold jones, richard pablo landrum, sonny morgan, warren smith, buddy lucas, full horn section incl cecil payne, hubert laws, eddie lockjaw davis, waymon reed
  20. Call me a hedonist, but if it were my skull and I could look back I'd say, "Cool bruh-ther!"
  21. Mine is a Sony Bravia 40V2500. It's great, right out of the box.
  22. It may be from a performance at the Academy Awards at the time that "In the Heat of the Night" was nominated. The movie, not the song. The movie won best picture. Just a guess...

    Jimmy Raney

I have this one and loved it when it came out, although I remember the recorded sound being a little thin:
  24. Yes, one side has the Minton/Johnson players and side 2 has the Mingus band.
