  1. I don't know if any of you saw the drawing of Hank that was included in the piece. It looked like anybody but Hank Jones!
  2. That's something I can agree with! Watching this show give me flashes of deja vu. I grew up with a lot of these kind of people. What the show gets, and misses half the time, is that these people are just lazy scumbags and not worth caring about. The guys that I knew are all either dead or in jail. The RICO laws put them all away for a long time. A side note: David Chase is from my hometown of Rochester, N.Y. Hometown Mobsters More of My Hometown Mobsters This is how one of the neighborhood boys ended up:
  3. I saw/heard him with that attachment at Ali's Alley. Same group, I belive. I have a recording where Benny Bailey uses a electronic attachment. Benny Bailey - Mirrors ( on Freedom)

  13. Happy Birthday Jim! Keep Swingin'
  14. Lucky Thompson was in the movies?
  15. I love Betty Carter but some people have a hard time getting past her style. I only saw her once, at Fat Tuesday in NYC. Sharing a table near me were Linda Ronstadt and Pete Hamil. My buddy, Barry Kiener had a audition with her just before this, but he was passed over in favor of Kalid Moss who couldn't hold a candle to him. That kind of soured me on her for a while.
  16. Never heard of this one, since I love the Griff/Kenny Drew recordings I have, it sounds like one to seek out. There were two of them The Giant and The Source. I have both and they are very good. Maybe the last great Gillespie record was Bahiana.
  17. I've always been partial to Portait Of Jenny
  18. Does anyone know who this Unknown Saxophonist is? Appeared with Hannibal Marvin Peterson's Sunrise Orchestra. NYC July 6, 1976
  19. Freddie Waits @ Boomers - 1976
