  1. Have a great time. Your suggestions are noted and for the last time, I'm that tall, not that old. HAPPY NEW YEAR to you too. HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU, PATTY. I must fess up....One of my New Year resolutions is that I will refrain from masturbating with you in mind (and I must say...they have been some of my better ejaculations). I LOVE YOU, PATTY. DEEP
  2. PATTY, I think this is one topic you would be better to NOT *TOUCH* UPON!! (Heat seeking *MUFF*) Missile knows of the impressive endowment of JOE MAINI'S root....and, I'm sure he knows of the exploits of THE *DEEP* ROOT In short: (There we go again) STAY OFF IT!!! DEEP Wasn't Joe Maneri or Maini the musician who used to air his out on the bandstand, topped with a hat, tipped at a rakish angle, causing mass merriment among his fellow bandmates?? PATTY, Joe Maneri is that fat, no playing toad that Reynolds was always raving about at THE WOD'S. Joe Maini killed himself playing Russian Roulette but his photo *HUNG* in the Union hall in L.A. with his FIREMAN'S HAT (aka GERMAN HELMET) displayed above his belt. MY STALK WOULD DWARF HIS This is man talk....JUMP THREAD!! DEEP
  3. AND we're so poll-rules-abiding that everyone who voted [including me, for Lansing] only voted once. As for St Louis being more likely, because it's bigger, we can only take up so much space, no matter where it is. Errr, Patty, the board software only allows us to vote once. I would have voted a dozen times for Lansing if I could get away with it. If you can still vote on your screen, then YOU HAVEN'T VOTED YET, Patty!! You know, I didn't try to vote more than once, because I am a poll-rules-abiding poster. I'm assuming that you know for other reasons??

  5. Even though I started this thread because I loved the idea of a gettogether, it is Patty and Dan who have taken it over. I APPROVE!! We need organizers and people who have the motivation to make this a reality. I will take either place, but in order of preference: 1. Lansing (Home of Organissimo) 2. St. Louis Why can't we do both? St. Louis in July when the festival hits and Lansing early next year during some holidays. What are the holidays January through March? Lansing is the home of Organissimo and is close to Chicago, where we have some members. Patty is willing to make the trip from her glacier home. Chuck is nearby in Grand Rapids. I'm nearby. Jim Dye. Bol is in Ann Arbor along with another board member. Soulstream is in Ohio? Ghost is in Indiana which is nearby. On the other hand, Rooster and Free For All and Eric are from KC which isn't far from St. Louis. They could hopefully make it over to Lansing as well. I am willing to house an Organissimo boardmember here in Toledo for the weekend and I can drive him up to Lansing for the meeting. No problem. First come; first served! I could possibly put up with two people if they don't mind staying together. Don't forget: the whole idea is to show up at Joe G's place with guns!
  6. He had others, as well, from what I'm told (by Bernard, but on this I trust him). Yoko was very into Patty Waters, of course.
  7. Suoni is over, outstanding year, of the 8 concerts attended 7 of them fall into the good to fantastic category. If I had to do a podium it would go like this 1 Farmers by Nature 2 Satoko Fujii Ma-Do 3 Atomic Big jazz fest started yesterday with suprise suprise no jazz among the concerts. Saw Robert Plant's Band of Joy, very enjoyable, Plant has not much of a voice anymore but he showed some energy plus Patty Griffin was as good as you can find as a backup singer. Buddy Miller showed his stuff. Plant was overshadowed by Prince who decided to do an inpromptu concert for two nights at the Metropolis, unfortunately tickets were out of my price range. Along the lines of 170 $ for a single ticket, heck I bought for 8 gigs at the Suoni for a similar price. Tonight true jazz starts with David Binney, Marc Ribot's Ceramic dog and Brad Mehldau in solo at the beautiful Gésu venue
  8. Wednesday saw Full Blast a Peter Brotzmann led formation with a heavy metal rhythm section, not so great a lot better was The Thing who brought along Joe MCPhee with them Thursday saw Atomic starring Paal Nilssen-Love on drums, another outstanding evening Tonight was in a different universe as I saw Band of Joy with Robert Plant, great band with Buddy miller and Patty Griffin among others Tomorrow big day as the big jazz fest really starts with multiple concerts to attend. Wish I could have seen Prince tonight but with tickets at 150 $ minimum , it's way out of my price range.

  11. Caught another very worthy Dick Sherman date. He was the trumpet player on tenor saxophonist Buddy Arnold's 1956 date for ABC-Paramount 'Wailing'. The session was reissued years ago on LP by Fresh Sounds. And it's really wailing. Very similar to the wonderful albums that Al Cohn and Joe Newman recorded for RCA at around the same time. The band is Dick Sherman, Frank Rehak, Gene Quill, John Williams, Teddy Kotick and Shadow Wilson. Dave Schildkraut and Osie Johnson sub for Quill and Wilson on several sides. Dick Sherman provided two originals 'Patty's Cake' and 'Moby Dick'. Arnold plays bass clarinet and Quill clarinet on 'Patty's Cake'. Buddy Arnold is a very good player out of the Brothers school. Seems he is very much involved nowadays in drug rehabilitation programs. More on this at http://members.tripod.com/~mikelil/buddy.html

  13. Yeah, any of the Dutch Fontana titles would be great, but prying them out of Alan Bates' hands would be mighty difficult I would think. I was pretty sure that Spiritual Infinity was a mass of aborted takes and nothing complete exists. Somebody was going to do the Colbeck a few years ago but I guess it fell through. Fine LP. The Marzette on Savoy is a good idea because a lot of people want to hear it, but it's not exactly earth-shattering music. The Patty Waters track is by far the best.
  14. patty waters is ... beyond words, thanks once again!!! xD
  15. I took my wife to see Vince Gill a couple of years ago, with Patty opening. I admire Vince as a singer and guitarist (for sure), but it was Patty that impressed me the most. There was just something in her music that seemed to speak to me in a way. It was kind of nice, actually. Haven't heard her bluegrass album; I imagine it's good.
  16. Patty Waters, specifically You Thrill Me on Water.
  17. Two that many will be familiar with : Chet Baker - Winter Wonderland (from the LP Pretty/Groovy on World Pacific) Paul Bley - Santa Claus Is Coming To Town (from the LP Introducing Paul Bley on Debut) And one that few will be familiar with : Patty McGovern - I Like Snow (from the LP Wednesday's Child on Atlantic)

  20. A VERY busy weekend. Went to the hellishly overcrowded Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival yesterday and today. Saw Jerry Douglas (w/Viktor Krauss & Omar Hakim), Patty Griffin, Jon Langford & Skull Orchard, Hot Tuna, Carolyn Wonderland. Wanted to see a lot of other stuff (Richard Thompson, Dave Alvin, Kinky Friedman, Rosanne Cash, etc.), but it's become impossible to navigate the crowds - and no fun. Too bad that it's become too successful for its own good. Went to a charity event with Elvis Costello and Nick Lowe doing each other's tunes last night. Very entertaining. If you want to read more, Joel Selvin breaks it down. Tomorrow night - Henry Threadgill & Zooid, part of the SF Jazz Fall Season.
