xybert Posted March 2, 2014 Report Posted March 2, 2014 What's that? New? No. It's a vinyl only release on a label called Hardedge from 2005. It features HT playing a lot of solo Hubkaphone with Zooid passages interspersed - almost a concerto for Hubkaphone! I've always wondered about this album, one of the few Threadgill's that i don't have. I can't imagine it being bad, but is it worth me going crazy over? Quote
Homefromtheforest Posted March 2, 2014 Report Posted March 2, 2014 Miles Davis "kind of blue" (Columbia USA 6-eye stereo) I also have a 6-eye mono, a Canadian 6-eye stereo, a Japanese Sony issue, the anniversary box set, the Columbia legacy CD, and the SACD of this title. A bit crazy but it's not that bad of an album Quote
B. Clugston Posted March 2, 2014 Report Posted March 2, 2014 KAMPEN - Bobby Bradford, Frode Gjerstad, Ingebrigt Haker-Flaten, Paal Nilssen-Love. No Busines LP. Recommended. I gave that a spin today as well. Bradford is the Kenny Dorham of the cornet--as in highly underrated--but I'm glad this album is getting lots of love. Quote
Homefromtheforest Posted March 2, 2014 Report Posted March 2, 2014 John Tchicai "afrodisiaca" (MPS, Germany) Yamashta & the Horizon "sunrise from west sea" (London, Japan) Toshi Ichiyanagi, Michael Ranta, Takehisa Kosugi "improvisation Sept. 75" (Iskra, Japan original) Quote

Clunky Posted March 2, 2014 Report Posted March 2, 2014 picked up yesterday at a local record fair. All you'd expect from an Esquire pressing. Quote
sidewinder Posted March 2, 2014 Report Posted March 2, 2014 Manfred Mann 'Chapter Three' (Vertigo, swirl) Quote
paul secor Posted March 2, 2014 Report Posted March 2, 2014 Interesting that all 3 of those John Lewis Atlantics have just come out over here on CD in the 1000 Yen series - I wonder if someone has just 'upgraded' and dumped their vinyl? Always our gain.. These three I'd not heard before but I passed up on a whole load more MJQ/ John Lewis/ Milt Jackson's from the same collection I used to have a copy of The Golden Striker. I felt it was pleasant at first but didn't have enough substance for me. Not bad music, in any sense, and I'm sure other ears will find things to like. Quote
sidewinder Posted March 2, 2014 Report Posted March 2, 2014 Gordon Beck 'Gyroscope' (Morgan, stereo) Quote
Clunky Posted March 2, 2014 Report Posted March 2, 2014 Gordon Beck 'Gyroscope' (Morgan, stereo) I like this one, have the CD issue which sounds more than adequate. Quote
porcy62 Posted March 2, 2014 Report Posted March 2, 2014 (edited) NY, stereo. Edit: I am still surprised at any listenings how great was the silver's writing. Edited March 2, 2014 by porcy62 Quote

Leeway Posted March 2, 2014 Report Posted March 2, 2014 continuing this afternoon's theme.... Are these records (and similar fare) fairly common in the UK? I know we practically never see them here in the US, with possible exception of "SOS." Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted March 2, 2014 Report Posted March 2, 2014 (edited) continuing this afternoon's theme.... On of my favourite records. And I still only own it on vinyl (though it has been CD-r-ised...and mp3'd)!!!!!!! Edited March 2, 2014 by A Lark Ascending Quote

And I still only own it on vinyl (though it has been CD-r-ised...and mp3'd)!!!!!!! Yes, I have that one on CD too, and it is a good one. It seems to have got some circulation here on vinyl, but the other ones that MJAZZG posted - just don't see them. Just wondering if this is fairly common fare in UK. Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted March 2, 2014 Report Posted March 2, 2014 (edited) They were all reissued on CD in the last few years by Dutton. http://www.duttonvocalion.co.uk/products.asp?cat=377&pg=3 Sorry - you're talking LPs aren't you, rather than availability of the recordings! Don't miss this little beauty either: Two CDs of live/radio music. Edited March 2, 2014 by A Lark Ascending Quote
