John Coltrane - Plays

I always think of this one as the forgotten jewel. Rarely mentioned but some of Coltrane's absolute best playing.

And also as the album cover where Trane is playing a short-shank Selmer Soloist mouthpiece!

It’s one of the Quartets very best. I’ve got the LP as well plus the cd for the bonus material.

Played it all today, so just first impressions, very pleased to have bought it. Very taken by Freeman's playing so far

I like what Freeman does to Baker (whose playing I tend to like or dislike on a by-album basis depending on the sidemen). There are some quite unexpected chords in there.

Not super unexpected. But enough to spin Baker off into new directions.

Yeah he was a very fine piano player. Very recognizable trough his own style that is really part of the whole sound of these records.

Oh no! Quick online order with Richer Sounds?

Maybe. Sadly I did not pay attention in electronics class, so I am not convinced I could fit the new cartridge myself.

We live round the corner from a shop, so I've asked my wife to take it round.

The kids have picked up a very endearing habit of putting records on for themselves, which may or may not be connected...

That made me laugh, maybe time to buy them their own?

I was very pleasantly surprised that I managed my last switch without wrecking anything. As a confirmed techno-idiot it was something of a first

agreed, fantastic album. I have my father's copy bought new in the late 60s. It still has the Bob Hyatt's Stereo Center (Rochester, NY) price code sticker affixed.

Lloyd McNeill - Asha [Asha Recording Co. Inc., US RE date unknown]

Very pleased to score this, the first reissue on McNeill's own label with artwork by him. The first press is now getting very costly so this will do me until my lottery win.  Can anyone shed any light on when it may have been released?

I like those two records very much.

Oren Ambarchi once told me how important Free Kata has been to his musical education. He also has played with Edouard Bronson, the saxophonist on these records.
