Anthony Braxton, Solo (Skopje) 1995. Really nice solo set from Braxton. It was supposed to be among the first Braxton House CDs, but never got issued until it appeared on overpriced vinyl 10 years ago. It can be downloaded from the Tri-Centric Foundation site at http://tricentricfoundation.org/label/braxton-house/solo-skopje-1995/

I've got the Braxton House CDs but did not know about this LP. Interesting! Curious as to sound quality?

It sounds good. Definitely one of Braxton's best alto solo albums. I believe Brandon Evans ranked it as is favourite. Apparently, co-producer Velibor Pedevski opted to release it on vinyl because it sounded much better than the proposed CD. It was supposed to have been released with the original Braxton House CDs back in 1996 or '97, but it didn't come out until 2003.

I can understand that As I recall. the CDs are just adequate in sound quality; however, some excellent ensembles and performances, so I'm glad to have them. Have to keep an eye out for that LP. Thanks.

Just played my first Gaslini album. I liked it:

Albert Ayler Trio: Spiritual Unity (ESP) - original issue

What are the markings of an original issue? My cover looks the same but is missing the Paul Haines booklet and I'm not sure what pressing/label details constitute a first pressing..

You can check here, might answer your questions:

.

My copy has the Haines booklet and the back and front covers look the same as what's on the second link. However, the label on mine isn't white. It's a red label. I bought my copy at the time it was released, but perhaps there was a previous issue.

edit - Just read Clifford's post. I guess I have a copy of the first commercial release.

Peter Gabriel/Various Artists - Scratch My Back... And I'll Scratch Yours (Real World). Includes the music on CD (nice touch). Unfortunately, some of the artists scratching Peter's back are not ones that I've heard much from before. Truthfully, that's what makes it interesting. Peter seems to have lost a lot of range. He doesn't hit those high notes too much any more. Still worth the $25 (for two LPs & 2 CDs).
