In the car finished Quincy Disc 5.... The Live sections are MUCH better than the studio stuff... overall I'm disappointed... <_< <_<

Started Dizzy set Disc 1....and as I expected :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited:

Is there anyone left on this board who hasn't gotten the Dizzy set???

Yep.

I'm currently on a strict "running low" diet when it comes to Mosaics (unless, of course, a terrific deal on one of the Universal sets happens to come my way  ).

Guess you're not a big Nelson fan, Chuck?

I was a fan of the early Prestige and Impulse recordings. Later he seemed to find some sort of "Oliver Nelson cut and paste book". The Verve date called Full Nelson was my first alert to this.

Quincy had earlier followed a similar path to greater financial rewards.

Woody Herman Philips Recordings (Mosaic, MS-031)

I just rec'd this one last week and this is probably my favorite edition of the Herman Herds. Nistico, Hanna, Nat Pierce and some great arranging/writing. A gem!

Totally agree. I already had about half of this material; I'm happy to have everything in one very nice package. Mosaic comes through again!

I only had the "Woody Herman-1963" reissue, so this was a natural for me. My Select just arrived today and I'm diggin' it!

Watching this and some of the other Nistico w. Herman clips that have been posted recently, what strikes me (beyond the music) is that even though Sal Nistico was in his early 20's when these were taped, he doesn't seem to show much pleasure in what he plays. It looks as if burnout was setting in at that early an age.
