jazzbo Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 Way to go! This week I'm alternating the Rich and the Roach Mosaic sets. Which is. . . a trippy thing to do! Quote
sidewinder Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 Just piling into Miles 63-64 set, LP 1. Set #785. Quote
Uncle Skid Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 Andrew Hill 63-66, disc 6. Discs 1-5 earlier. Might make it all the way through yet today. Truly fantastic stuff. Quote
sidewinder Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 Miles 63-64 LPs 2 and 3, then Duke Ellington 'The Cosmic Scene' Mosaic Single, to round things off. Life is good. Quote
desertblues Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 just played Disc 7 & 8 of the Mildred Bailey, now it's time for some Sonny Stitt! Quote
sidewinder Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 Big for Duke's 'The Cosmic Scene'. Some fabulous Gonsalves in this one. 30th St Studio sonics - and in STEREO for the first time ! Quote
mikelz777 Posted June 1, 2007 Report Posted June 1, 2007 (edited) After several days taking in Sonny Rollins' Complete Prestige Recordings, I'm back to The Complete Clef/Verve Count Basie Fifties Studio Recordings. I knew I would like this set for the great price I got on it at Amazon.UK but this Mosaic is really exceeding my expectations. Great soloists, Basie's wonderful economical playing and a band that will blow your hair back-great stuff! Edited June 1, 2007 by mikelz777 Quote
sidewinder Posted June 1, 2007 Report Posted June 1, 2007 Continuing a Basie theme - 'Complete Basie Roulette Studio Recordings' LP 5. :rsmile: Quote

Matthew Posted June 1, 2007 Report Posted June 1, 2007 Johnny Hodges: Disk three. This is still my all-time favorite Mosaic. Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted June 2, 2007 Report Posted June 2, 2007 Sonny Stitt -discs 5 & 6 - "Stormy Thursday" got up and yelled at me today (and it's Saturday). MG Quote
sidewinder Posted June 2, 2007 Report Posted June 2, 2007 Giving the Larry Young LP set an airing. LP6 - the 'Of Love and Peace' session. Quote
ASNL77 Posted June 2, 2007 Report Posted June 2, 2007 (edited) Giving the Larry Young LP set an airing. LP6 - the 'Of Love and Peace' session. I listened to records 5, 6 and 7 a few days ago. The 'Of Love and Peace' session is very challenging but I am starting to like it. I much prefer the more 'conventional' Larry Young stuff. The 'Unity' session is in a league of its own. I really like this set . I also like the fact that it has nine records for nine albums. That must be my French cartesian side.... Edited June 2, 2007 by ASNL77 Quote

I had a similar reaction to 'Of Love and Peace' but now am of the opinion that it is magnificent ! 'Seven Steps' took a bit of a while getting used to if you have been listening to Miles' version for years and years. Just bought an original vinyl, which should now be on its way. I found that one the hardest of the original Larry Young Blue Notes to source. Quote
Big Al Posted June 3, 2007 Report Posted June 3, 2007 Finishing up the Hutch Select, disc two. Very nice! Quote
