bertrand Posted June 30, 2005 Report Posted June 30, 2005 If a person plugs an album that he/she produced (which is fine with me) in any of the forums on this board (not just recommendations), do we not all agree that in the interest of full disclosure, that person should mention that he/she produced the album in question? Just a thought. Bertrand. Quote
White Lightning Posted June 30, 2005 Report Posted June 30, 2005 Absolutely. However, don't we all usually know which are the albums that were produced by fellow O members? This suggestion, valid and sensible as it is, makes more sense in forums with a bigger member count. Quote
mikeweil Posted June 30, 2005 Report Posted June 30, 2005 Of course he/she should. Same goes for musicians self-promoting, which is alright with me, as longs as it is no major label. Quote
bertrand Posted June 30, 2005 Author Report Posted June 30, 2005 We don't know if they're using an alias. Bertrand. Quote
neveronfriday Posted June 30, 2005 Report Posted June 30, 2005 I couldn't care less. If the recording is good, it ain't gonna hurt me and if someone is plugging crap he/she will be found out in a few minutes. There are just too many knowledgable posters here NOT to notice that kind of thing. And, if it wasn't disclosed beforehand, we get the added pleasure of watching certain well-trained members pounce on the culprit. That usually brightens up the day. Quote

Jim Alfredson Posted June 30, 2005 Report Posted June 30, 2005 I don't see why it would be a big deal. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted June 30, 2005 Report Posted June 30, 2005 It'd be nice to know, probably, but in the end -- I don't think it matters all that much, either way. I mean, it's not like most of us are going to buy something on the basis of just one recomendation --- unless the person plugging it is well-known to us (someone with a great rep on the board), or unless one or more of the players are well known by at least somebody here. In nearly every case, it's the resulting conversation in the thread that really sells me on something, and rarely just the initial plug. Everything's "buyer beware" in this world. Quote
Jazzmoose Posted June 30, 2005 Report Posted June 30, 2005 I would think that concealing such info would be incredibly foolish. I don't know about the rest of you, but the fact that a board member is involved in a recording makes me more likely to give it a try, not less likely. And a poster who has the trust of the rest of the board would certainly be foolish to abuse that trust. While such an act might not affect my impression of the music, it would certainly affect my impression of the person involved... Quote
clifford_thornton Posted July 1, 2005 Report Posted July 1, 2005 Funny you mention this.. I always forget to mention when I write a review or an article that people here might be interested in - I'm a lousy self-promoter. I'm in AAJ, Paris Transatlantic and Bagatellen, if anyone wants to look those up on the web. See, still lousy at it. Quote
