Hardbopjazz Posted September 7, 2005 Report Posted September 7, 2005 This whole recording makes me wonder, what else may be sitting on a shelf at the library of Congress. Quote
Jim R Posted September 7, 2005 Report Posted September 7, 2005 http://bluenote.com/detail.asp?SelectionID=10459 ← Anybody care to describe this for someone who can't open it? Quote
Peter Johnson Posted September 7, 2005 Report Posted September 7, 2005 Oh. My. God. I can't wait to hear this. Quote
Alexander Hawkins Posted September 7, 2005 Report Posted September 7, 2005 Shadow Wilson's cymbal work on 'Epistrophy' over the closing credits is fantastic! Quote
rostasi Posted September 7, 2005 Report Posted September 7, 2005 Anybody care to describe this for someone who can't open it? I'm with you Jim. It irks me when, with the 5 most common movie files: .avi; .mov; .mpg; .rm; and .wmv, they choose a sixth one: .asf to feature this clip. Quote
couw Posted September 7, 2005 Report Posted September 7, 2005 .asf is a streaming format that does not constrict the actual file type of the stream. This .asf acts as a meta-file and hides another streaming format (.asx), that points here. The actual format seems to be .wmv (version 9). This is basically a bunch of the people involved with this release talking about it, all of it underlain by some music excerpts. Quote

Yup, I understand the nature of "Advanced Streaming Format" but I don't do Windows unless I have to use their Media Player. I'm gonna try to make this file into a QT compatible one. Quote
John L Posted September 8, 2005 Report Posted September 8, 2005 The gems here are the two complete performance previews from the album, including a dynamite Evidence. The video is nothing all that special (IMO). Quote
bertrand Posted September 8, 2005 Report Posted September 8, 2005 Lundvall is right. 'Sweet And Lovely' with the long double-time 'Trane solo with Monk laying out is the highlight of this set. Bertrand. Quote
Clunky Posted September 8, 2005 Report Posted September 8, 2005 T.S. Monk's comments regarding the mastering of the tapes makes me wonder how the CD will compare with the LP issue. Quote
Peter Johnson Posted September 8, 2005 Report Posted September 8, 2005 (edited) I agree...I am a bit disturbed at the possible spectacle of "all the state of the art computer effects" that he kept mentioning...damn, couldn't they have just given the tapes to Malcolm Addey? Oh well, the thing's coming out, and I haven't heard it yet, so open ears...open ears...still can't WAIT to hear it! T.S. Monk's comments regarding the mastering of the tapes makes me wonder how the CD will compare with the LP issue. ← Edited September 8, 2005 by Peter Johnson Quote

Lazaro Vega Posted September 9, 2005 Report Posted September 9, 2005 Jazz could use all the promotional videos it needs. This works as a tease. Favorite part, T.S. Monk saying, "This concert opens with a ballad." His expression is priceless. Quote
andybleaden Posted September 9, 2005 Report Posted September 9, 2005 What a wonderful and liberating idea. We have plenty of that please in the future! About time and cannot wait.......if ever there was a way to wet your appetite this was it. Thank you Blue Note Andy Quote
Lazaro Vega Posted September 24, 2005 Report Posted September 24, 2005 You know, thinking about what T.S. Monk said, about the concert starting with a ballad...the first recording by Monk and Trane (with Wilber Ware on bass) was "Monk's Mood" in April of 1957...this live version makes an incredible contrast with that spare first effort....
