AndrewHill Posted August 23, 2007 Report Posted August 23, 2007 Thanks all. I really appreciate the kind thoughts, more than I can say! Sorry about your loss, man. Losing a pet is no picnic. I have a question about your former avatar: was that a BN record? What was on it? I dug that cover quite a bit. That is one of the many avatar creations of AfricaBrass, who used to hang here quite a bit. Wish he'd come back, too! Thanks. Now I kinda wish that there was music to go with that hip cover! Quote
Free For All Posted August 23, 2007 Report Posted August 23, 2007 Sorry to hear about the departure of Moose, Mark. My dog is still living, and being well cared for by my ex, but one of the most painful aspects of being divorced has been how much I miss my doggie pal. We were the best of friends and he always brightened the worst of days. I think about him every single day. When I was still in the house and online late at night (usually at this site) he would be under the table on his bed asleep keeping my feet warm. Man, we do love our animals, don't we? I'll also miss the Jazzmoose (it goes back quite a way on this and the BN board), but as long as you continue to hang here I don't care what name you use. All the best! Quote
AndrewHill Posted August 23, 2007 Report Posted August 23, 2007 Sorry about your lost buddy. Weird coincidence, my cockatiel died today. One of my daughter's goldfish died over night Quote
ghost of miles Posted August 25, 2007 Report Posted August 25, 2007 Mark, thanks for letting us know, and thanks again for your reassurances and advice last summer when our kitten got out and was missing for two days. I have two 18-yr-old boy cats & am grateful for every extra day that they're here... and grateful that you're here on this board as well. Quote
jazzbo Posted August 25, 2007 Report Posted August 25, 2007 Mark, my condolences. Hang tough. Welcome to "Mark!" Quote
7/4 Posted August 25, 2007 Report Posted August 25, 2007 Sorry 'bout the cat Mark. I miss my cat and it's been 20 years. Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted August 25, 2007 Report Posted August 25, 2007 Yes, I still miss both our cats and both our dogs. My wife's thinking of getting another dog when she comes back from Africa in October. But I'd be happy just to have another cat who'd knock on the door to come in. MG Quote
Dan Gould Posted August 25, 2007 Report Posted August 25, 2007 Sorry to hear of your loss, Mark. All pet lovers have been there, and I feel for you. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted August 26, 2007 Report Posted August 26, 2007 RIP Moose. Hope you are able to find a way to honor him that isn't heartbreaking. Quote

Jazzmoose Posted August 26, 2007 Author Report Posted August 26, 2007 RIP Moose. Hope you are able to find a way to honor him that isn't heartbreaking. I would imagine, that after a little time, I will return to the former name. And use my buddy's picture as my avatar. But it'll be a while yet... And again, I'd like to thank all for the sympathy. I always felt frustrated when others went through something bad here, and all I could say was "I"m sorry", but you know, it helps. A lot! Quote
Rosco Posted August 26, 2007 Report Posted August 26, 2007 You have my deepest sympathies, Mark. Our family cat had to be put to sleep two weeks ago and it was a real wrench. Polo was 19 years old and was one of a litter of feral cats that my folks had hand reared (my mother used to do volunteer work for animal walefare back in the day). My dad bottle fed this one kitten and when the rest of them were homed they kept Polo. The cat and my dad were very attatched to each other. I don't think there was an evening in those 19 years when she didn't curl up next to him on the couch. She was an incredibly sweet-natured animal and, unlike a lot of cats, was very into human company. Never any trouble, rarely strayed further than the backyard, never once went to the vet. Her one vice was sneaking into the bathroom and tearing the spare tolilet roll into pieces, scattering pulped shreds of tissue all over the place. During the last few weeks of her life she became very skinny and in the last couple of days stopped eating altogether (and man, did this cat like her food!). The vet said her liver, kidneys and thyroid were going, her back legs has started to seize up and, well, it was just time. My dad was real upset by it, but no one wanted to see her suffer. Never saw my dad cry before, but he wept for his little feline buddy. Tore me up. We miss her. Quote
White Lightning Posted August 26, 2007 Report Posted August 26, 2007 My condolences, Markl. All of us who are lucky enough to have pets can understand your sense of grief and loss. Best wishes. Quote
BruceH Posted August 26, 2007 Report Posted August 26, 2007 An explanation for those interested: My recent name change from Jazzmoose to my actual name was a decision I made due to the fact that Moose, my cat, has passed. It was a bit too painful to see the name every time I logged in or posted, so I made the change. It may return in the future; I don't know. Sorry about any confusion. Sorry to hear about that, Mark. I had no idea that the name switch was for such a painful reason. My sympathies. Quote
king ubu Posted August 27, 2007 Report Posted August 27, 2007 Sorry to hear about your cat, indeed. Our own cat (she's roughly 10 but we don't know exactly) was badly injured while we were on holiday - with almost 10 more days before we went home, and she also went missing for two or three days... our neighbours had to track her down and bring her to a doctor... she's quite ok again by now, luckily. Anyway, telling this is just a way to say I can feel your pain Quote
NaturalSoul Posted August 27, 2007 Report Posted August 27, 2007 I'm sorry to hear about that. I lost my dog of 16 years 2 years ago. It's a hard thing. Quote
Free For All Posted September 6, 2007 Report Posted September 6, 2007 Welcome back Jazzmoose! Nice tribute avatar, btw. Quote
Jazzmoose Posted September 6, 2007 Author Report Posted September 6, 2007 Thanks. It felt like it was time, and I had to add the picture of my little buddy. Sure miss him, though... Quote
7/4 Posted September 6, 2007 Report Posted September 6, 2007 Good to see you and your avatar again Jazzmoose. Quote
Dan Gould Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 Mark, you've been such an integral part of this community, its almost as if your namesake was a mascot of sorts, so its good to see him - and you - back. Here's to all the little, and not so little, buddies who are gone but never forgotten. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 Thanks. It felt like it was time, and I had to add the picture of my little buddy. Sure miss him, though... Ohhhh what a sweeeetie! Verrry cute! (admit to a compulsive fixation on cuteoverload.com) Quote
