Decca has released today a vinyl reissue of The John Cameron Quartet's Off  Centre featuring Harold McNair, Danny Thompson and Tony Carr. I think it's only ever has a CD reissue on Vocalion. The album's reissue was curated by the inimitable Tony Higgins who also wrote new sleeve notes.

Does anyone know what became of that incredible website henrybebop.co.uk? It was a source of very detailed information on the UK bop jazz scene, with huge amounts of info on the most obscure UK boppers. It seems to have disappeared, such a shame. I was looking up Ronnie Ball and the links are broken. Terrible.

It had a few issues in terms of formatting and accuracy but it was useful. You can still access an archived version from June 2024 here: https://web.archive.org/web/20240616224949/henrybebop.co.uk/

Thanks, but that didn’t seem to work for me. There must be somewhere on here familiar with ‘Henry’ and his brilliant website. Shame if it’s no longer easily accessible, there was a mass of detailed information there.

Shame Vocalion Dutton gave up on modern jazz. At one stage they had a great British jazz catalogue, excellent production values.

All of that Harriott/Garrick material now gone cept for one twofer & a DVD

Also missing in action: Shake Keane, John Surman, Harry Beckett, Henry Lowther, Alan Skidmore, Mike Westbrook, John Cameron, Amancio D'Silva, Bob Downes, Ray Russell...........

Late to the conversation here...but...

Both 'Pendulum' and 'Trio' have been reissued by Decca Records and seem to only be available here!

https://www.everythingjazz.com/story/a-story-of-vision-and-tragedy-british-jazz-pianist-mike-taylor-reissue/

tried to pre-order both but this initial pressing with "poster" appears to be already sold out

actually I've tried multiple items & all are unorderable due to being "sold out" - what gives?

I successfully ordered from the link in my post, just before I posted.

Just checked now and was able to add to basket from here

https://ukstore.everythingjazz.com/products/trio-vinyl-exclusive-art-card?_pos=2&_sid=4071f78cd&_ss=r

Hope you manage to track them down. It might be worth checking Juno or Honest J's as I'm sure both will stock them at some point.

I did try Honest Jon's earlier (been buying from them for a few years now) - not listed yet

Did eventually manage to get the 2LPs into a basket but the shipping to Australia is a killer ie £52 for 2LPs!!! that's over $110 Australian (only option is DHL express) - hopefully other shops will carry  & this won't to be a limited release

My order has gone through OK, no problems. There is a 25% discount offer for first orders. Doesn't apply to pre-orders alas but it did allow me to pick up the new Kenny Burrell 3LP Tone Poet at a decent price.

Quite a lot of overlap with the Blue Note UK store in terms of their inventory so all part of the same Universal UK operation by the looks of it.

The two new Mike Taylor LPs will be 'play' copies. I have both the Lansdownes in originals but this allows me to keep them under wraps.

1. This 52 GBP postage fee includes shipping costs, VAT, custom duties etc. Acc. to their FAQ. you will not pay anything more upon arrival... Let's wait and see where else these will be available from.

2. And the reissue was announced also here: OUT OF NOWHERE. The uniquely elusive jazz of MIKE TAYLOR. : Mike Taylor's albums reissued soon!

3. EDIT: FOR NON UK FANS, JAZZECHO.DE [a Universal website/store] offers these LPS for €33 each. €13 shipping. And a BLUE NOTE bag for free. Order placed. Mike Taylor Trio (Tone Poet Vinyl) - JazzEcho

wonder if Dusty Groove will get them? They did not get the proper Decca issue of Space Walk, alas.

Intriguing that for Trio it states vaguely that “new edition has been remastered at Gearbox Studios, London, using the original tapes (or high-resolution digital source files, taken from the original tapes)” whereas for Pendulum, the source is clearly stated as digital. I think I’ll stick with my CDs. Trio is a compelling  record which repays close repeated listening.

Wow, jealous. Never seen Pendulum on sale ever. Must have sold in the 100s when it was first issued.

The CDs from the 2000s were pretty well done I think, although Sunbeam's issue of 'Pendulum' came and went literally overnight (managed to snag one).

Not sure on quantities of the original LPs but both were in low numbers for sure.

Have only ever seen 2 copies of the 'Pendulum' LP. One is the one I have and the other was a pretty beat-up copy on the wall of Harold Moore's not long before they closed. They wanted about £500 for it even then !

Incidentally, I see that the sales invoice lists out the cover prints as separate items at £1 each so I wonder if these will be limited or included with the 'regular' issue?

Harold Moore’s! Interesting old shop, Mole Jazz was there upstairs for a last gasp before closing. On the CD reissue of Trio, the first track is listed as ‘All the tings you are’…. I think Tony Higgins was involved in that reissue series. You need a magnifying glass for the sleevenotes. The Sunbeam Pendulum reissue is v good

It was hung on the wall on the way down to the basement - this was in the very last last days of Mole when they had vacated the upstairs section.

The CD issue of 'Trio' was in that first batch of 'Impressed Repressed' CDs put out by Universal UK with involvement by Giles Peterson and Tony Higgins around the time of the 'Jazz Britannia' concerts and TV series.

One of the attractions to me of the new LPs is that they have new multi page sleeve notes by Tony Higgins, which should be interesting.

The Sunbeam CD was withdrawn from sale very suddenly - if my memory is right Universal didn't approve the use of the tapes (sourced from the Lansdowne Studio, then still in business).

The original Pendulum LP was only ever mono, the Sunbeam CD reissue was stereo. Interesting which way the reissue goes. As an aside Mike Taylor opened for Ornette Coleman at the renowned Croydon Fairfield Halls concert in ‘65. Wonder if any tapes exist of that performance.

Yes, my LP is in mono. I think it is likely that the reissue LP will be in stereo.

There was one major performance where Taylor was a no-show and had to be subbed. I have the feeling that it might have been Croydon.

Thanks for the tip but again shipping is ridiculously high to Australia ie 44.95 euros (DHL only again) - I've emailed Honest Jon's to see if they intend to carry these LPs
