mellowT
Perhaps you should dip your toe in the water with the wonderful Cross-Country Tour set. http://www.amazon.com/Cross-Country-Tour-Ahmad-Jamal/dp/B000006EJ4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1275845235&sr=1-1 Thanks, KH. Those samples are excellent! If the Mosaic is as good as that Verve title, I'm in.
David Ayers
The Euro version of the Jamal might make more economic sense, if and when it comes. [wrong] I wish they had included the solo session for Argo (the hype in the brochure states incorrectly that ALL Jamal sessions for Argo are included) [/all wrong, see below] and [still true] I could care less about the string session and quintet side.[/still very true] Has anyone worked out the running order, which in some cases seems to be LP order plus others, elsewhere just actual recording order - ? I'd also like to know which tracks actually were mastered from original tapes if any. The usually forthcoming discographical notes are a bit reticent. mellowT
Well, I just learned that those Verve sessions are on the Argo Mosaic. I guess Verve gobbled up Argo, so it's one and the same. I was able to preview entire tracks in Rhapsody using my free monthly allotment (no more lala ), and was entirely blown away. I've pre-ordered both of these sets today. Thanks for the encouragement! J.A.W.
Well, I just learned that those Verve sessions are on the Argo Mosaic. I guess Verve gobbled up Argo, so it's one and the same. Verve and Chess/Argo are both part of Universal.
Bill B
I wasn't aware Jamal had recorded a Solo Session for Argo/Chess ? Any details ?
Chuck Nessa
No sidemen.
David Ayers
I wasn't aware Jamal had recorded a Solo Session for Argo/Chess ? Any details ? Oh! No! I thought there was one which I had never heard but I am wrong - I can't find any details so I must have made it up. Strange though - why was I so convinced... jlhoots
I probably have enough Jamal (for me). OTOH, the Carter / Bradford is on my list. Obviously, too bad they couldn't get the 2 Flying Dutchman LPs.
Son-of-a-Weizen
Oddly enough, I don't have any Jamal and am looking forward to this set. I see that some tracks were recorded at the Spotlite Club in DC.

Kyo
No sidemen. I own zero Jamal so far and I don't think I've even heard a single note, but for some reason this big Mosaic set is very tempting... colinmce
Like someone suggested earlier, maybe try Cross-Country Tour on for size. If you like it, or if you get the box, do not forget to also pick up The Legendary OKEH/Epic Recordings, some of Jamal's drummerless sides. They are truly exceptional.(and indeed, the Epic disc is a good primer, too, just not quite the same as what's on the Mosaic)
tranemonk
Do we have any better estimate on when these sets are going out??? I'm waiting impatiently!!!
colinmce
With a "late June/early July" release date, I'm going to go ahead and say mid July at the earliest ...
cliffpeterson
It should be noted that the carter/bradford box set includes "Seeking" which has been available on the various Hat labels for a while. I have that disc but still intend on getting the set.

mellowT
I was told by Fred at Mosaic that the ETA for these sets is late June. Is Fred the new Cindy?
cliffpeterson
I have spoken with a "Fred" at Mosaic off and on for quite a while.
Bluerein
Depending on how you define the new Cindy........Fred is much more masculine and is "also" running Mosaic's financial stuff! He is co-owner of Mosaic.
Brad
I listened to Chamber Music of the New Jazz and if you're on the fence, get this one. You'll be hitting the order button.
JETman
New eta on these is mid-July as per Scott.
ghost of miles
I just got an e-mail from Mosaic seeming to indicate that the Bradford/Carter will be out as of this week. The budget won't allow me to get both till the end of next month, but happy camping to all the pre-order folks.
mellowT
If both new sets are ordered together we will hold order and not ship ahead to save on shipping charges. Nice. Seems I cough up enough in bloated shipping charges. There's no more 2-day shipping. We get week-long ground service regardless.
