GA Russell Posted October 20, 2022 Author Report Posted October 20, 2022 FORGOTTEN 60S: Now 100 Hits - $7.95 https://www.hamiltonbook.com/forgotten-60s-now-100-hits-compact-disc I've never forgotten these songs. Maybe it's because I've never heard of half of them. I want to point out one that the Brits here might remember from 1967 - Simon Smith and His Amazing Dancing Bear by The Alan Price Set. This song was the first music video I ever saw (not counting Rick Nelson at the end of Ozzie & Harriet episodes). Dick Clark showed it on American Bandstand. Quote

This is a pretty good set for the price, and worth getting. A lot of good memories, stuff I'd never buy (especially as a kid) but, yes, never forgotten: Bob Lind - Elusive Butterfly (ever try writing a poem in 7th grade? It sounds like this), Shirley Bassey - As Long As He Needs Me, The McCoys - Hang On Sloopy, Joe South - Games People Play, Brenton Wood - Gimme Little Sign (I have this single, on Double Shot Records), Lou Christie - I'm Gonna Make You Mine, Crazy Elephant - Gimme Gimme Good Lovin' (I have this one too - Bell Records), The Tremeloes - Here Comes My Baby (great party record), The Showstoppers - Ain't Nothing But A House Party (covered by The J. Geils Band), and that's just CD One. Quote

Seems too good to be true. Quote
jazzbo Posted November 2, 2022 Report Posted November 2, 2022 I don't know if anyone has received this. . .just seems to have been "reduced" today or the reduction discovered today. I will say this: any time in the past when there has been a bargain like this from Walmart. . . it was received as advertised. Quote
jazzbo Posted November 2, 2022 Report Posted November 2, 2022 Yes. I happen to like Mayall of this vintage, have quite a bit but this is more than twice what I have. We'll see if the order ships. Quote
JSngry Posted November 2, 2022 Report Posted November 2, 2022 I like how Blue Mitchell made it into the blurb. Quote
jazzbo Posted November 2, 2022 Report Posted November 2, 2022 (edited) I saw Mayall with Mitchell at the University of Chicago in a small hall, no seats, just a dance flor, on a double header with the Ohio Players, which was televised later on one of those late night weekend shows. A very memorable night. Edited November 2, 2022 by jazzbo Quote
JSngry Posted November 2, 2022 Report Posted November 2, 2022 I hope they include the original liner notes, which for a while always prominently gave what key the song was in. That was charming! Quote

mjzee Posted November 2, 2022 Report Posted November 2, 2022 For those who enjoy classical music, Classical Centerstage Store (which I believe is owned and run by Universal) is having a huge sale on boxed sets, with discounts of 50% or more. Much to love here: https://classical.centerstagestore.com/collections/classical-box-set-sale Quote

JSngry Posted November 2, 2022 Report Posted November 2, 2022 There's only 12 keys...24 if you count minor. THERE'S a project for a wonky type of person - a 24 CD set of blues, one disc for each key. Quote
felser Posted November 2, 2022 Report Posted November 2, 2022 I have everything previously released up through "Jazz-Blues Fusion", so I can probably sell off enough of those to pay for the set. Quote
GA Russell Posted November 3, 2022 Author Report Posted November 3, 2022 (edited) Darn, the Mayall box is now out of stock. Thanks anyway, Lon! PS - Correction. The $80 box sold by Deep Discount is now out of stock. Walmart has it for $300+. Edited November 3, 2022 by GA Russell Quote

I wish I were that big of a fan of Mayall's music. If I bought this, I doubt that I'd get from start to finish.... ever. Quote
jazzbo Posted November 5, 2022 Report Posted November 5, 2022 Cool. I will, I like Mayall and have a sentimental attachment to a number of releases in this time frame. I spend a lot of time listening to music, a habit that has developed in the fourteen years I've been retired. Quote
