ghost of miles Posted June 14, 2011 Report Posted June 14, 2011 I've posted some news about it on the Night Lights site. Quote
jazzbo Posted June 14, 2011 Report Posted June 14, 2011 Wow. I already have all this material I think. It's good stuff. Will I buy it again? Maybe. Quote
king ubu Posted June 14, 2011 Report Posted June 14, 2011 Very cool! Don't have much of this yet! Quote
J.A.W. Posted June 14, 2011 Report Posted June 14, 2011 Excellent news. I have some of this stuff on 2 John R.T. Davies-mastered Hep CDs. Quote
tranemonk Posted June 14, 2011 Report Posted June 14, 2011 this is fantastic... I don't have any Chick Webb.. and am looking forward to this... I'm not a huge Ella fan but I definitely prefer her earlier work... Thanks for the update... Anybody got any pull over there and can get my Betty Carter Select on the drawing board?... Quote
crisp Posted June 14, 2011 Report Posted June 14, 2011 This is great news -- thanks! Plenty of Ella in my collection but no Chick Webb. It will be interesting to hear how it all began for her. Good news on the Hawk set too. I'll probably preorder that one. Quote
ejp626 Posted June 14, 2011 Report Posted June 14, 2011 I'm sure it's good news for many, but I could never see myself ordering or enjoying this set. Quote
Dave James Posted June 14, 2011 Report Posted June 14, 2011 I'll be all over this one. Chick Webb was dynamite. I'm not sure how apocryphal it is, but I love the story of Webb's crew blowing Benny Goodman off the stage when Goodman came to the Savoy for a battle of the bands. I'm also guessing this would capture Ella before she was overcome by the need to scat incessantly. At least for me, that would be a good thing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q7yGiTxAyRQ Quote
colinmce Posted June 14, 2011 Report Posted June 14, 2011 Geez, they need to stop! I'll never catch up ... Quote
ghost of miles Posted June 14, 2011 Author Report Posted June 14, 2011 Updated with just a bit more info about whether or not there will be any previously-unreleased material, and that Andreas Meyer is doing the remastering. Quote
gmonahan Posted June 14, 2011 Report Posted June 14, 2011 This seems a logical follow-up to the Lunceford set (that I've preordered!) I have the GRP Decca Jazz set ("Spinnin' the Webb") and "Strictly Jive" on Hep, as well as the Fitzgerald 2-cd sets on Decca Jazz. I imagine there will be a fair amount of stuff on this set I've never heard. Sound should be far better than the GRPs (he said, hopefully). It's cool that Mosaic continues to delve into the Decca catalog. I do wonder whether they might not do a Benny Goodman Big Band RCA set at some point. It would go nicely with the Columbia. gregmo Quote
golfcrazy1984 Posted June 14, 2011 Report Posted June 14, 2011 Exciting news!!! First the Lunceford (pre-ordered it) and now a Chick Webb/Ella Fitzgerald and a Hawkins set!!! Quote
Swinging Swede Posted July 7, 2011 Report Posted July 7, 2011 It's cool that Mosaic continues to delve into the Decca catalog. Yes. But it should have happened before the Universal fire. Or the fire shouldn't have happened... Quote
