Dan Gould Posted October 4, 2012 Report Posted October 4, 2012 Everything I have by Grey puts a smile on my face but those Argos are especially good, and criminally neglected, IMHO. AMIRITE? Quote
JSngry Posted October 4, 2012 Report Posted October 4, 2012 URRITE as far as I've heard. How much is there, and can the Tangerine side be included? Quote
Dan Gould Posted October 4, 2012 Author Report Posted October 4, 2012 I want to say there are five titles but I might be wrong ... Havin a Ball, Thinking Man's Trombone, Last of the Big Plungers, at least one date co-led by Billy Mitchell, Night Song ... might be more than five. And the Tangerine side is great too. Quote

Dan Gould Posted October 4, 2012 Author Report Posted October 4, 2012 A perfect Mosaic 'big box'. Quote
jazzbo Posted October 4, 2012 Report Posted October 4, 2012 Pretty good stuff, would be a nice set. Quote
golfcrazy1984 Posted October 4, 2012 Report Posted October 4, 2012 That would be AWESOME!!!! Great suggestion. I'll send Mosaic an email asking about this. Al Grey is wonderful. The "Thinking Man's Trombone" has a group of from the Basie band, Joe Newman, Freddie Green, etc, I believe. Quote
Jim R Posted October 4, 2012 Report Posted October 4, 2012 Not a new idea, of course: Artists who shoulda had a Mosaic... Nobody said "amen"... don't know if that put the kabosh on it, or what. Anyway, I'm sure there were other threads like that, in fact I could have sworn that Dan brought this idea up at least once before (a long time ago, perhaps). Quote
jazzbo Posted October 5, 2012 Report Posted October 5, 2012 I'd like to see the Tyree Glenn Roulettes come out on Mosaic. Or through an EMI label. Quote
Head Man Posted October 5, 2012 Report Posted October 5, 2012 I'd like to see the Tyree Glenn Roulettes come out on Mosaic. Or through an EMI label. Three of his albums have been released by Lonehill on a doubler a while back. Quote
Head Man Posted October 5, 2012 Report Posted October 5, 2012 Yes. But Lonehill sucks. Agreed, but....................... Quote
colinmce Posted October 5, 2012 Report Posted October 5, 2012 Ditto some of those Al Greys & Fresh Sound. Quote
Bluesnik Posted October 5, 2012 Report Posted October 5, 2012 How much is there? one of those al grey argos came out as a lpr a while back. i have it but though i've looked hard for it can't find it now. it's called something like snap your fingers or snap something. and i also agree that a select of them would be great. a great way of having them all together. Quote
jazzbo Posted October 6, 2012 Report Posted October 6, 2012 Yes. But Lonehill sucks. Agreed, but....................... But nothing. The sound is inferior to what we could get. The art is ugly. I steer clear. Quote
Tom in RI Posted October 15, 2012 Report Posted October 15, 2012 (edited) If memory serves (no sure thing) those Argo's have pretty short playing time, maybe right for a Select. Edited October 15, 2012 by Tom in RI Quote

Swinging Swede Posted December 30, 2012 Report Posted December 30, 2012 Excellent suggestion. I also count 12 unissued tracks, but they may have perished in the Universal fire. Quote
J.A.W. Posted December 30, 2012 Report Posted December 30, 2012 (edited) If memory serves (no sure thing) those Argo's have pretty short playing time, maybe right for a Select. There will be no more Selects, the series was axed by Mosaic. From now on they will exclusively release big boxes. Edited December 30, 2012 by J.A.W. Quote

I assume existing inventory wasn't moving or not moving fast enough. Quote
colinmce Posted January 1, 2013 Report Posted January 1, 2013 Correct. A true shame, as I find them more interesting and rewarding than the big boxes. Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted January 1, 2013 Report Posted January 1, 2013 I've said it before so I'll say it again, Mosaic could do some great boxes if they could license some Bee Hive sessions. A complete Nick Brignola Bee Hive maybe? I've talked to Michael about it a few times and he's more than interested but says that label owner Jim Neumann won't do it. Shame that this great catalog goes unheard by so many of today's Jazz fans. Quote
