Eric Posted January 25, 2015 Report Posted January 25, 2015 (edited) I am almost done with "sports" as an interest. Too much BS. I hope the "almost" ends soon. This drum keeps beating louder for me. Too many why I am watching (or reading) this moments. Edited January 25, 2015 by Eric Quote
Scott Dolan Posted January 25, 2015 Report Posted January 25, 2015 I'm sure the Pats cheated; they are just surprised that the reaction of the NFL has been this severe. Severe?! Are you being serious here? The little dog and pony show the NFL has carried out in order to keep themselves relevant during the two week wasteland between the championship games and the Superbowl is "severe"? Quote
Leeway Posted January 25, 2015 Report Posted January 25, 2015 Let's wait and see what they do. Maybe you're right, but I expect more than they did in Spygate. Quote
Scott Dolan Posted January 25, 2015 Report Posted January 25, 2015 I don't. All signs are leaning towards the NFL finding the Patriots did nothing to break any rules. That may be a smoke show, but I doubt it. I kind of look at it akin to not calling pass interference on an uncatchable ball. Is it still a penalty if it had absolutely no bearing on the outcome? Well, using Larry's logic it is. It was still an attempt to cheat. But, in certain cases you have to look at it and say, well it really made no difference, so why are we going to make a big deal out of it? Quote
paul secor Posted January 25, 2015 Report Posted January 25, 2015 (edited) After the fact, the Patriots didn't need to do what they did. But the fact remains that Belichick will do anything - legal or not - to try to gain an advantage. I'm saying Belichick and not the Patriots because, as I said before, I don't believe that there's anything that goes on with the Patriots that Mr. Control Freak doesn't know about or have a hand in. Jazzmoose Posted January 26, 2015 Report Posted January 26, 2015 If the Pats had not been caught before, I might give them the benefit of the doubt. But they have. I Yeah. Belicheck is obviously the type who thinks it's only cheating if you get caught; I see no reason to believe him at this point. Quote

Scott Dolan Posted January 26, 2015 Report Posted January 26, 2015 I've said elsewhere that he needs to be kicked out of the league as he needs a serious and powerful wake up call before he ruins what's left of his life. Quote

Dan Gould Posted February 2, 2015 Report Posted February 2, 2015 (edited) I'm the first SB commenter? Well I'll just say "from the luckiest MFs to the saddest MFs to the dirtiest no-class MFs in about 90 seconds. Stay classy Seattle. And eat shit and die Pete Carroll." Now all that's left is for the NFL to admit that the game time temperature changed the pressure in the footballs used in the AFC championship game and to profusely apologize to Brady, Belicik and the entire team. JSngry Posted February 2, 2015 Report Posted February 2, 2015 All that's left is for Seattle to fire whoever it was called that pass play. Never mind temporary lapse of judgement or whatever, that's some death wish shit for real. Quote

Now all that's left is for the NFL to admit that the game time temperature changed the pressure in the footballs used in the AFC championship game and to profusely apologize to Brady, Belicik and the entire team.I guess the football gods got tired of letting Seattle win on flukey plays. I actually really hated the end of the Seattle-Green Bay game, since I felt they got lucky three times in a row, and I dislike it when chance plays such a large role in games. And essentially that is at the core of why I am not a sports fan. Most sports fan eat this stuff up.Anyway, it looked like another flukey catch was going to win them the game. And they didn't just run the ball? Totally baffling... Quote
Tom 1960 Posted February 2, 2015 Report Posted February 2, 2015 My wife who knows little about football couldn't understand why they didn't attempt to run that play. Friggin' unbelievable. Quote
Homefromtheforest Posted February 2, 2015 Report Posted February 2, 2015 3 chances to get 1 yard and you have beast mode on your team. WTF. New England got lucky on that idiotic play call. And yeah that little display of poor sportsmanship was sad to see; did not expect Seattle to behave like that...it was their own fault for handing over the game to them like that. Quote
Jim R Posted February 2, 2015 Report Posted February 2, 2015 Highlight of the game for me, without any doubt, was Richard Sherman's expression on the sidelines when that ball was intercepted. I'll carry this with me for some time. As a 49er fan, I've seen some horrible play calling in both regular season and post-season games over the past several years, but this one was just mind-boggling. Lynch was all they needed from one yard out. Even the non-football fans watching the game knew that. WOW. Congrats to the Pats for coming back, and to Brady for coming back from the picks, and to Edelman for a great game. Wilson is the only Seahawk player that I really "like", and I feel badly for him. He is a GREAT player. The fight was sad to see, but who knows what may have been said or done in the trenches, and the frustration levels had to be astronomical. No excuse, but it's easy to judge people from a sofa (or a dining chair). Also, I'm no fan of Carroll, but I have to give him props for his postgame interviews. He was all poise and all class, from what I saw. Quote
Scott Dolan Posted February 2, 2015 Report Posted February 2, 2015 Ah, Monday morning quarterbacks. It just doesn't get any better. Well, while the rest of you are clutching your pearls and fanning yourselves, I'll go ahead and inform you that throwing on first and goal has been accepted practice in the NFL ever since I started watching it back in the 70's. Zig when they're expecting you to zag, that kind of thing. Now, Wilson definitely should not have tried to force it into such tight traffic, but the called play was anything but idiotic. It just ended poorly. It happens. It was an excellent game between the two best teams from each conference. It's not often we get to say that. Quote
Homefromtheforest Posted February 2, 2015 Report Posted February 2, 2015 Well I've watched since 1981 but gosh I guess I need to fan myself some more!?!? Quote
JSngry Posted February 2, 2015 Report Posted February 2, 2015 Hell, I've been watching since 1965, and I've learned that when zagging is pretty much as close to a thing there as there is, and it's a championship game, not going for the zag and going for some zig is an indication of cleverness for cleverness sake, that ultimately you'd rather be clever than win. It's"thrilling" when it works, but when it doesn't work, hey lost Super Bowl, how clever does that feel now, Mr. OOOH, they'll never see THIS one coming! Fucking eyes spinning in opposite directions at the same time hubris is what that is. Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted February 2, 2015 Report Posted February 2, 2015 From what I've read, everything seems to point to the Patriots baiting the Seahawks into that throw. They left their jumbo package in after the Seahawks subbed an extra eligible receiver. Also, the Patriots practiced that exact play earlier in the week so Butler knew what should happen when they came to the line with that look. Supposedly, Butler was beat by the practice squad on it. I still can't believe that they threw that ball. And many seem to miss is the other great game winning play in the end. Getting the Seahawks to jump offsides when they had the Patriots pinned on the 1 yard line was huge. You go from a Brady dive to a Brady knee. Quote
