I like the way his style evolved over time, yet always remained very personal & identifiable. He made a series of solo piano albums for Telarc towards the end of his career and this was his "What did you do during the way, daddy?" record. The songs he selected had personal meaning for him relating to his WWII experiences. Then on to -- Fantastic music on both -Love June´s recordings with Guarnieri. Brubeck recorded at that time some beautiful solo albums, "Indian Summer" is my dearest. Quote
JSngry Posted May 27, 2020 Author Report Posted May 27, 2020 Actually, a somewhat meaningful record, except for when Jon Faddis solos, which is on every cut and in no predictable order. But is there meaningfulness in imperfection, annoyance even? Perhaps there is. But I'd have liked this pretty good record into damn good status if Jon Faddis was not on it, at least not playing like this. Quote

Bluesnik Posted May 28, 2020 Report Posted May 28, 2020 I had a terrible case of cannonballitis tonight and I listened to this and now to this Also with Hank Jones, but with Paul Chambers and Kenny Clarke in place of Sam Jones and Art Blakey. Plus his brother Nat instead of Miles. Quote
