jazzbo Posted July 10, 2020 Report Posted July 10, 2020 (edited) Grateful Dead "Workingman's Dead" The 50th Anniversary edition of this album arrived today, out today. I listened this morning to the Mobile Fidelity SACD which to me on my system sounds fantastic. Then the new version arrived (3 cd, 2 of which are a live show mixed from 16 track from '71) and I listened to this version of the album. It sounds very good darker and thicker sounding than the SACD. If you have the SACD and don't need the live show one can comfortably stick with the SACD. Except. . . man the lenticular slipcase cover on this is OUTSTANDING. Really a trip! And this album has a cynically hopeful statement so ripe for this time: "One way or another this darkness got to give." Edited July 10, 2020 by jazzbo Quote

I caught that band with Chris Biscoe playing the Mingus material some years back. It was a packed out festival crowd. 11 minutes ago, porcy62 said: An electric afternoon, thanks to my repair man who fixed my cd player. Enjoy !  Sondek CD player back in action? That deserves getting the champers out. Very nice. Hope they do a UK tour when ‘normality’ returns. 11 minutes ago, porcy62 said: An electric afternoon, thanks to my repair man who fixed my cd player. A mainly analogue afternoon for me, as I am demoing a new supply on my phono stage. The difference is not small... Bankruptcy beckons... Edited July 11, 2020 by sidewinder Quote

Yep my man found a converter in an obscure audio board, my bank account is very happy 😃 btw my hi-fi pusher wanted me to listen to a new Japanese phono stage, I strongly refused. Too bad that Linn don’t design their digital stuff for longevity with their service support but that is great that you got the converter so that that classic player gets a new lease of life and many more years of play.   Totally different to Linn turntables, which seem to be supportable forever. I’m hearing great things from my dealer about the Karousel bearing upgrade, so that is likely a no brainer after the current wallet hit.. Edited July 11, 2020 by sidewinder Quote
