On another board we had an interesting discussion about bossa nova and jazz. Some were maintaining bossa nova was jazz, others that it wasn't. I'm in the camp that it's not jazz, something else, but some very jazzy bossa nova happens and I love it. This is one of those recordings. I'm reaching for it lately--it delivers as bossa nova when I have that frequent itch, and there's some great jazz-sounding guitar and "flavor," and the recording is very very good.

Andy LaVerne Quartet - Frozen Music (SteepleChase)

Such appealing music -- and such an ugly cover.  Given the album's title, I know they're going for a blue-and-white icy look.  But, goodness, is that the best you can do?!?!  Oh well.  As the old saying goes, "You can't judge a book..."

Linking this post to another thread: Saxophonist Rick Margitza is a "Young Lion" whose music I've enjoyed for a long while.  It's nothing mind-blowing.  I just like his sound -- touches of Wayne & Joe Hen with a dollop of Getz -- and his musicality.
