An excellent reissue on BGO. Flawless remastering, complete original liner notes, a new essay including interview segments with Burton exclusively made for this reissue. The only thing missing are the exact recording dates.

My wife slept late and I was able to listen at almost just the right volume to Angela Hewlitt playing Beethoven sonatas while reading the excellent liner notes to the new Hasaan Ibn Ali solo piano 2 cd set. A really nice hour.

 

Then I snuck in half of this great Sunday morning listening before I had to rejoin the family:

I warmed to it after a couple of listens and really like it now. More just as the next McCraven album rather than for any of its BN connections. Nice band.

I haven’t caught up on this. Is it like his previous one or is it more of a conventional jazz record?

Like the previous albums except he's used BN music alongside his musicians. I'm sure you can play spot the sample but it deserves more than that I think
