A March 1959 Ellington session that I wasn’t even aware of until recently. Eddie Lambert has a good rundown on it in his invaluable Ellington book:

This material was recorded for SESAC Transcriptions. I have an EP 45 containing 4 of the pieces and the same cover art, as seen in this grouping of treasures from my middle school days.264397130_4896335333710783_5816209035247

Lots of respect for the Mezzrow Victor/Bluebird sessions - Benny Carter, Bud Freeman, Willie the Lion, Frankie Newton, etc. I have some of the material on Label X eps and more completely on Chronological Classics.

must admit I was slightly disappointed in this one... but I guess it needs more time and attention... the other Iyer/Smith collaborations I know (Tabligh and the ECM Duo) got to me more quickly... as did this one which I played earlier today
