I only knew Swana's and Landham's names, I suppose because the others are solely Philly based, but it's music of the highest standard. Do I recall that this one got the Larry Kart seal of approval?   Enjoyed the heck out of both of those Swana-Philly albums. Those tenor men, and the the rhythm section, and Swana too of course. Larry Kart 7 hours ago, Rabshakeh said: How does this one compare to the four Minton's records, Tenor Scene, and the three "Sets", and to the Twofer with the same name? A considerable research project, which I'm not prepared to undertake at the moment. Quote

Herbie Mann Plays Afro-Cuban Jazz" recorded live at New York City's Basin Street East in June 1959. Â Verve cd. Herbie Mann flute, bass clarinet, Carlos "Valdes percussion, vibraphonist Johnny Rae, bassist Knobby Totah, and percussionists Santos Miranda and Luis Mangual. Â That one I wanted to post a long time ago (I love the cover), after I had stumbled upon it diggin up Cal Tjader's Soul Burst, but I still have them lying around without having played them. Rabshakeh Posted August 28, 2022 Report Posted August 28, 2022 (edited) Lee Ritenour – Captain Fingers (Epic, 1977) Gradually coming to the conclusion that I like Lee Ritenour's stuff quite a lot. It's light pop fusion, but it never has the deadly quality of stiff rhythms or silly guitar shredding. Sort of a watered down Bill Cobham sound. Dated enough to be distant and charming. Actually nice. Doubt it appeals to 90% of listeners here. Edited August 28, 2022 by Rabshakeh Quote
