Very good. Brawny slightly Avant adjacent Chicago big band with a commitment to the tradition. Similar concept to Kahil El Zabar's smaller groups.

Early 00s weren't a great time for mainstream jazz in my opinion. This is one of my favourites from that era.

Soundwise, a disappointment. Harsh piano sound, all miked closely. No room ambience. Cannot believe David Baker engineered this. Typical quickshot 1979 sound. But they very good. Sam Jones with Kenny Barron and Keith Copeland. Two alternates on this CD.

Do you have the LP or the CD? I bought the LP but I think I should have gone with the CD. I can't listen to it as often in LP form.

I'm looking forward to seeing them again at Scullers Jazz Club on March 11th.

That's my favourite Christy LP - she swings more here than on any other album.
