The new 3-cd set (which I like a lot) caused me to go back and listen to this one.

I also have this, I had bought it after I had heard about Tatum thru Jakey Byard and Don Pullen, the only pianists I knew then.

It´s wonderful, maybe then at first listening it was a bit hard for me (bad piano, unusual for me a solo piano no bassist, no drummer no horns), but it HAD something.
I remember that version of "Begin the Beguine". Then I didn´t like that tune in general, I associated it with old people, but that intro with a light spanish tinge in it was really sharp, and how he goes into stride in the course of the tune.

It´s so great that Woody´s son publishes so many live dates of his father. I don´t have this one , but I have Bremen or so, maybe on other from Elveția, but with another pianist....

Everytime I play a Mingus Big Band cd I think “That’s my favorite.” They are all so good.

Pretty good record. The leader is to be commended for hiring up, spending that money, and getting a good record for it. He's an ok player, but let's just say that the extra help is the difference maker. Really nice tunes to boot!

Altoist Loren Stillman's "It Could Be Anything (Freshsound, 2005).Really cohesive group; Stillman is inspired. Bassist Scott Lee contributes mightily, as does Gary Versace, on piano.

New favorite display font!!!  Beautiful impact and amazing Readability.  This cover art is worth its salt in my book.  Who designed it??
