jazzbo Posted March 1 Report Posted March 1 I sent a copy of this to my pal Dave Laczko in Austin and he was raving about it as I knew he would so I’m spinning disc 1’ I can’t believe how great the sound is everytime I break out this set! Art Tatum “Jewels In The Treasure Box: The 1953 Chicago Blue Note Jazz Club Recordings” Resonance Records 3 cd set, disc 1 Quote

All of them favourites of mine. oh my Godnesses, that´s outa sight ! Soooo great ! I MUST purchase this. And never heard Hank Mobley so hip, so modern, it´s so much power on it, with that stellar rhythm section, and it´s cool to hear Cedar Walton playing Fender piano here, that´s really music I dig ! I'm sure a search of these forums will find some discussion of it. I have never been a fan, as it saddens me to hear a weak Hank Mobley struggle to blow his horn. Others hear differently. Quote
HutchFan Posted March 1 Report Posted March 1 with Craig Taborn, Adam Rogers, and Nate Smith Helluva band, helluva record. Quote

Tatum is brilliant on this but I struggled a bit with Stewart: that sawing thing he has going sort of kills the rhythm. Quote

jazzbo Posted March 1 Report Posted March 1 Miles Davis Quintet “Live in Europe 1967–Bootleg Series Vol. 1” Sony Blu-Spec CD edition, disc 2 This disc contains 2 November 1967 at the Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen, Denmark plus the beginning of 6 November 1967 at the Salle Pleyel in Paris, France. Sound is not perfect but decent. Interesting performances. I prefer earlier recordings of this quintet but they were a formidable and influential group in modern jazz. Quote
