Peter Friedman Posted March 3, 2022 Report Posted March 3, 2022 (edited) This is only one of four recordings where the 3 brothers, Thad, Hank, and Elvin Jones appear together. Too bad they did not record together more often Edited March 3, 2022 by Peter Friedman Quote

Dub Modal Posted March 3, 2022 Report Posted March 3, 2022 (edited) Outstanding trio record although I'm not a fan of the Fred Schwab cover art in terms of its connection to this album. Its coldness betrays the much warmer connection between the musicians and how they produced something really beautiful here. LaRoca adds something special. Makes me want to check out subsequent Friedman albums for sure. Looks like he recorded pretty regularly up to his passing in 2016. Edited March 3, 2022 by Dub Modal Quote

I heard a Shepp plays Bird album lately, with Siegfried Kessler, Bob Cunningham and Clifford Jarvis. That´s the group I heard in the late 70´s. Also heard a quartet with Ken Werner, Santi Debriano, John Betsch , and some more, I don´t remember them all..... Quote

Early 00s, with Mabern and Mraz. Similar to other post 70s Shepp, but without the rumination on the Tradition: the vibe he's aiming for seems to be Left Bank chic. Quote
