I rather like Dauner (though not his heavily electrified stuff), so had a listen on Youtube. Well, this album is exactly what I don't care for, and I bailed after less than five minutes. 5 hours ago, dougcrates said: I thought I would give this one more chance before parting with it but I still can't get into it so out the door it goes. Ouch. Edited August 11, 2023 by T.D. Quote

I think I saw "Oregon" once since it was on schedule of a jazz festival but can´t remember much. And I never was a real guitar fan with the exception of sounds of Charlie Christian, Kenny Burrell, Wes Montgomery and Mike Stern when he was with the 1981 Miles band...... Somehow I don´t really like acoustic guitar. Quote

I played guitar during my student days and have listened a lot to the great Andres Segovia (the master of them all) on classical guitar. Besides Towner for jazz guitar my faves are Barney Kessell, Tal Farlow, Howard Roberts & Burrell & Raney. Mike Stern with the Brecker Brothers is something special (song for Barry). ;-]] Quote

jazzbo Posted August 12, 2023 Report Posted August 12, 2023 Right now, another unsung vocalist that I really enjoy Babs Gonzales. He was a complete goof. But he could also deliver straight and emotionally as he does often enough on this LP. A reissue of an earlier LP which is very hard to find: Babs Gonzales “Babs” Chiaroscuro LP Some of my favorite musicians behind him here! Drums – Roy Haynes Leader, Vocals – Babs Gonzales Piano – Horace Parlan Acoustic Bass – Buddy Catlett Tenor Saxophone – Charlie Rouse, Johnny Griffin Trombone – Melba Liston Trumpet – Clark Terry Violin – Ray Nance 600×618 123 KB Original 1968 LP Quote

I also have a CD collecting a bunch of his bebop 78s, with unfortunate cover art that suggests the music was taken from Edison cylinders. Quote

I have all I have ever encountered by him, which is nearly all written or recorded. I once pleaded with Michael Cuscuna to collect all this into a Mosaic set. His one line response: "Lon, you are out of your mind!" Quote
