I hear owls all the time, but we used to have them close, on our property, even one year a family with two young ones learning to fly.

But. . . they ate all the rodents up and went off to new territory a few years ago. In the meantime, the rodent life has returned and expanded. Hawks have found this out, an owl will probably stake this their territory soon, as they have in the past.

One of our cats has been terrorizing the mice. Turbo is 7 and until a few weeks ago he never caught anything but he probably saw his brother catch an occasional mouse and since then he must have killed five or six.

My previous dog, Fiona the dachshund was a mole and mouse killer. . . but chipmunks were too fast for him. Toby the new dog is not interested in rodents. More for the hawks and owls to hunt. Just saw an owl fly by the front bay windows heading for the side yard.

I have two huskies that would love it if I let them off leash to chase any critter than moves. I do not, to their chagrin.

I live in a sparsely-housed wooded neighborhood a half a mile up a steep hill from a lake and directly across the street from a large wildlife preserve (forest). Walking my dog on a leash still allows them to perceive and encounter critters, and I have a large electronic fenced area the dog can roam and encounter critters.

In an urban or suburban area things would be different.

There are four from Richard Carpenter who was a jazz manager and songwriter who worked closely with tenor saxophonist Gene Ammons. He is best known for structuring the jazz standard "Walkin'" from Ammons' earlier musical ideas and co-writing tunes like "Stringin' the Jug" with Ammons and Sonny Stitt. There is a letter from his brother and Ben Stubenville when he was in the hospital.
There's a letter from Eugene Wright sent to his address in Chicago, Wright played bass in some of his groups and played bass with Dave Brubeck. There's leltter from 1948 from Harold Oakley booking agent in Hollywood concerning some gigs in California. The receipts are for his payments to the musicians union.
