B. Clugston Posted May 28, 2018 Report Posted May 28, 2018 Guitarist Reggie Lucas passed away earlier this month. He would get my pick as Miles Davis' most unheralded sideman, though he got plenty of recognition and a Grammy for his later songwriting and production work. I love his guitar work on Miles' 1975 Japan tour. He also briefly studied with Ornette Coleman and was the guy who set Ornette up with Jamaaladeen Tacuma. Quote
Gheorghe Posted May 29, 2018 Report Posted May 29, 2018 Really sad news. He was a remarcable musician and one of the key figures for 70´s rockjazz. The Miles Bands with Reggie Lucas-Pete Cosey were great. Quote
sidewinder Posted May 29, 2018 Report Posted May 29, 2018 (edited) Sad news. I will spin ‘Agharta’ today in his memory, RIP. Wasn’t he also musical director and svengali for Madonna at some stage? Edited May 29, 2018 by sidewinder Quote

Also made a nice record of his own for East Wind, appeared with Mtume's 70s avant-garde orchestra, Masabumi Kikuchi, and others. Quote

Came out on Inner City here. One side was pop-oriented, the other side is the best look at what was going on inside of Miles' music of the time I think exists. Very study-worthy and enjoyable. Justin V Posted June 2, 2018 Report Posted June 2, 2018 I believe that I only know his work on On the Corner, but it sounds like I'd enjoy some of his other work. Thank you for the music, Mr. Lucas, and rest in peace. Quote
