catesta Posted January 2, 2019 Report Posted January 2, 2019 Damn, I'm sorry to report Bob "Super Dave" Einstein has passed away. His appearances on Letterman were always hilarious as was his Marty Funkhouser on Curb Your Enthusiasm. A true comedy natural. Albert Brooks (@AlbertBrooks) R.I.P. My dear brother Bob Einstein. A great brother, father and husband. A brilliantly funny man. You will be missed forever. RIP, Super Dave, you will indeed be missed. Quote
Brad Posted January 2, 2019 Report Posted January 2, 2019 I heard about his passing earlier. His character Marty Funkhouser was one of a kind. A real shame. RIP. Quote
sidewinder Posted January 2, 2019 Report Posted January 2, 2019 Sad news, another blast from the past. Remember him doing his ‘stunt’ stuff on North American TV. RIP. Quote
JSngry Posted January 2, 2019 Report Posted January 2, 2019 Laughing all over again. RIP and much love. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted January 2, 2019 Report Posted January 2, 2019 All this stuff had to happen if your dad was Parkyakarkus Quote
BFrank Posted January 3, 2019 Report Posted January 3, 2019 I remember him from way back as the cop on Smothers Bros, which most people don't mention (other than here!). Quote

There was a mention of his passing on NPR this morning (which I only half heard), and I'm almost positive it mentioned something about the Smother's Brothers. I'll have to search and see if the audio is on-line. Quote
Dave James Posted January 3, 2019 Report Posted January 3, 2019 (edited) Wonder what became of his stunt co-ordinator, Fuji? He never got anywhere near the credit he was due. Without him, there's no Super Dave and the world would be a lesser place. Edited January 3, 2019 by Dave James Quote

GregK Posted January 5, 2019 Report Posted January 5, 2019 i remember him from Bizarre, with John Byner. Genuine Saskatchewan sealskin bindings Quote
sidewinder Posted January 5, 2019 Report Posted January 5, 2019 Never realised he was from the US. That ‘Super Dave Osborne’ show seemed to be on the airwaves constantly on Canadian CTV (I think) back in the ‘90s’ so I always assumed that, like the show, he was a Canuck. Quote
Ted O'Reilly Posted January 5, 2019 Report Posted January 5, 2019 Some of the gag-writing and the stunts on the Super Dave show (which was originally shot in Toronto) were written by Paul Grosney. He was a swing/dixie-style trumpet player, and booked jazz gigs in the city. One was a side job to the other, but most of us couldn't decide which was which. He made a couple of big band records which were pretty good! Here's Groz with bassist Rosemary Galloway and Gene DiNovi... Quote
Dave James Posted January 7, 2019 Report Posted January 7, 2019 This appearance on The Tonight Show was particularly amusing. Johnny pretended to take him seriously while Super Dave attempted in vain to protect his image. Quote
JSngry Posted January 7, 2019 Report Posted January 7, 2019 Super Dave followed by Richard Pryor! Quote
