The first one I think I want to read after it arrives is the biography of the infamous Morris Levy.  $20 and change with free shipping for new hardcovers. - this is a tremendous deal

I didn't see that listed.  However I recommend "Me and the Mob and the Music" by Tommy James in which Levy is a central figure.

Levy was one of the scummiest of scumbags. I don't know that I'd want to read a book about his life. :)

Oh c'mon - like people don't read memoirs by mobsters?  And this isn't just a mobbed up guy, he was deep in the music we love.  That's what makes his story interesting to me.

For sure. I'm of the opinion that one can't truly get an accurate history of anything in the US without accounting for organized crime syndicate involvement.

The Ellington and James Johnson books look intriguing as well. I thought I saw 2 books on Duke but it was just one.

Edit to correct again: there are 2 Ellington books. The second is Jack Chambers Tone Parallel.

I bought the Booker Pitman record with the same cover as the book, so that one is smiling at me... "The World's Soprano Sax Nr 1" or something like that, released a few months after Bechet's death ... From what I know, it's a fascinating biography...

I thought it was coming in April? I better get it soon. Even though it was a pre-order, I already paid.

Yeah, mine arrived Wednesday last week. I ordered another book from them at the same time that was in stock and that came near immediately. Hope you get your copy soon.

hmmm hope I get mine soon and then I will have to decide ... set aside the Prestige book to read this first or continue on and then move on to the KD?  I have barely cracked Listening to Prestige. Not that it doesn't strike me as something one could pick up and set down and read very piecemeal.
