Rabshakeh Posted 5 hours ago Report Posted 5 hours ago Are there any reed players who claim primary inspiration or some other form of artistic descent from Paul Desmond? I'm always struck by how much I love his playing every time I listen to his records. Quote
jazzbo Posted 4 hours ago Report Posted 4 hours ago I wouldn't say Immanuel Wilkins "claims primary inspiration" from Desmond--I'd be very surprised if he did--but I hear strong elements of his sound at time in Wilkin's own sound. I love them both. Quote

Did he say this somewhere? I sort of missed Clusone at the time, and I have never really got to grips with his music as a result, although I always enjoyed their records. Quote
Niko Posted 1 hour ago Report Posted 1 hour ago Yes, American based in the Netherlands... I've read that comparison often but I wouldn't know of an interview where he says this himself.... Btw Lewis Porter has an interesting pair of posts on why Brubeck has not been much of an influence on other pianist https://lewisporter.substack.com/t/brubeckdave Quote

Brubeck I can understand. Who in 2026 really loves his style? Quote
