7/4 Posted December 4, 2005 Report Posted December 4, 2005 Started snowing here too. I just got home from my gig and beat the snow, but I looked out the window and there it was. I went to a loft/gallery concert and made it home in time too. I was checking to see if it started. It's wailing now. Weather.com sez: Snow accumulations less than one inch. but it looks like more already (from the 8th floor). Quote
B. Goren. Posted December 4, 2005 Report Posted December 4, 2005 Very nice weather in Tel-Aviv: 29° C (84° F) and sunny. Quote
catesta Posted December 4, 2005 Report Posted December 4, 2005 Snowing! 1st of the season and it's sticking, but I don't expect to see any there whern I get up in the morning. Have you looked outside? I'm getting ready to head out and check on the trucks. We got more than expected, but no big deal since I had the guys all on stand by. Quote

I think I don't want to admit that Winter is here. Two years ago we got womped with a major storm on Dec. 6. Three months and two weeks to go folks. Quote

7/4 Posted December 4, 2005 Report Posted December 4, 2005 (edited) Second snow of the season and I'm already ready for winter to be over. Guy I was ready before the snow. The forecast was for a cooler 44 by the end of the week and Friday it was 34 and very windy. And then there's the snow... Second snow of the season and I'm already ready for winter to be over. Guy No s***! My job requires to me work outside(mailman) and I already have a negative attitude. Well another 11 years and maybe I can retire. I appreciate the job you're doing. It ain't easy. Tom 1960 Posted December 4, 2005 Report Posted December 4, 2005 Funny stuff, guys. I really do enjoy my job for the most part. It keeps me out of the office most of the day and the time flies by. Winters can test the nerves abit. The cold doesn't effect me too much as long as I dress properly. It's the ice that gets me. I've fallen a number of times. Luckily haven't gotten hurt seriously, although it creates anxiety no doubt. As for taking any jazz shipments... Well there is this guy on the route who gets Mosaic mailings now and then. I couldn't mess with him though. He already knows I'm a jazz fan and he would suspect me first if anything should suddenly come up missing. Besides, he recently gave me a jazz Christmas anthology and I just wouldn't have the heart. Quote

7/4 Posted December 4, 2005 Report Posted December 4, 2005 (edited) Ever read Post Office by Charles Bukowski? Can't say I'm familar with his work. I did however drop by Amazon's website and read some reviews and this one made me chuckle most: A friend of mine enthusiastically touted this book and lent it to me. It was my first Bukowski book. It is also my last. The only thing going for this book is that it's brutally honest and translates his frustration well. That's it. The book is a sad attempt to be clever. It's not an engaging story, it's not well written, and the protagonist, loosely based on Charles Bukowski, is a vile little man. Funny? If you consider reading about underwear skid marks hilarious. This book is about an ugly (in every way) human being who hates his job. He's not even likeable: A slovenly, shiftless, lascivious, alcoholic bum who happens to have a job he hates at the post office, curses like a sailor and chases women in his spare time. How he ever gets any women flabbergasts me. And he doesn't even attempt to leave his job! The only lesson I learned from reading this book? I learned what NOT to aspire to be. I also learned to avoid Bukowski's vile written crap like the Plague. Interspering the word F*^k every other sentence does not make good, enjoyable or witty reading. I read a bit about Bukowski's life and...honestly, the author should have just written this as personal therapy, keeping his entries under lock and key. DISGUSTING, mindless and a total waste of time. So vile, wretched, idiotic and crude I had to take a hot shower after reading it. Lame review, I wouldn't take their word for it. Did I mention I'm in the magazine business and I'm responsible for a bit of that junk mail you're carring around? Edited December 4, 2005 by 7/4 Quote
7/4 Posted December 5, 2005 Report Posted December 5, 2005 Now they're talkin' 'bout 3-6 inches on Monday night. WTF. I thought this was going to be a warm winter. Although I do remember cold Decembers followed by a mild Jan-Feb-March. I hope this is one of them. Quote

Chuck Nessa Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 Everybody please stop whining. We have had over 2 and a half feet in the last 10 days. I shoveled about 6" this morning and we expect another 6" overnight. Weather channel says it will be like this for 4 more days. Did I mention it has been around 20 degrees all day. Gotta admit it's better than zero and lots of wind. Quote
WD45 Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 Gonna get down to about 5 again tonight. This weather makes me pissy. Quote

Gotta admit it's better than zero and lots of wind. I WISH we got that kind of snow here. Seriously. In mid-Michigan it just gets cold (and windy), but we only get about 2 weeks worth of ski-able snow for the entire winter. That's a drag. That reminds me, though... Uncle Skid and I talked about doing some skiing last year, but never got around to it. I think I'll be headed towards your neck of the woods, Chuck. Quote

I'm going to go out to the state park in the next day or two and see how the trails look. The lake effect snow keeps coming... Quote
