"Muskrat Love" - Captain & Tennille

Hands down. No debate. Worst. Ever.

What the hell is muskrat love anyway?

Yuck! :w

Ya, just HAD to ask, didn't you?

Muskrat, muskrat candlelight

Doin’ the town and doin’ it right

In the evenin’

It’s pretty pleasin’

Muskrat susie, muskrat sam

Do the jitterbug out in muskrat land

And they shimmy

And sammy’s so skinny

And they whirled and they twirled and they tangoed

Singin’ and jingin’ the jango

Floatin’ like the heavens above

It looks like muskrat love

Nibbling on bacon, chewin’ on cheese

Sammy says to susie honey, would you please be my missus?

And she say yes

With her kisses

And now he’s ticklin’ her fancy

Rubbin’ her toes

Muzzle to muzzle, now anything goes

As they wriggle, and sue starts to giggle

And they whirled and they twirled and they tangoed

Singin’ and jingin’ the jango

Floatin’ like the heavens above

It looks like muskrat love

La da da da da ...

Hmm...he claims he hates it, but knows all the lyrics.  Kinda makes you wonder, eh?  ;)

The damn thing was on the charts for weeks and weeks and weeks in the 70s and it's been burned into my brain!!!!

Remember the gawdawful electronic "muskrat noises" the friggin' "Captain" created on his synth????

Thankfully, I was only six at the time, and therefore had no real clue as to what constituted good music at the time.

Therefore, I feel no shame in saying that I actually like this song, simply for the good memories it brings back.

Other than that, it's tripe.

**********

I used to think Talk Talk's "It's My Life" was pretty cheesy until No Doubt recently destroyed it. This version is so ghastly it will probably make the top ten of the worst songs ever fifty years from now!

After I made my last post, I had that song in my head for the rest of the night. "Muskrat lo-o-o-o-ooooove!" Oh well, at least it wasn't a Donovan tune......

Or "American Pie" for that matter!

How about "I Dig Rock & Roll Music" by Peter Paul & Mary? That one's so bad and so out of touch it's unintentionally hilarious!

Y'all leave Donovan alone!

Granted, he was too naive for his own good a lot of the time, and the picture of Dylan vibing him in Don't Look Back is about as cruel a moment as you'd want to see, but the guy had a good voice and made a lot of VERY GOOD records. Relics of their time, perhaps, but hey - you live by the pop, you die by the pop.

I've never heard the original, but the Jefferson Airplane's version of his song 'Fat Angel' (in which he mentions the Airplane) was excellent.

On the Airplane/Starship issue (how can the first band be so good and the second be so crummy?), I feel there are a lot worse Starship songs than 'We Built This city'. How about: 'Miracles', 'Dance With The Dragon', 'Ride The Tiger' etc. I always hated those.

some stuff that i hate soooooo much:

Nikita - Elton John

Dreamer - Supertramp

Against All Odds - Phil Collins

Radio Ga Ga - Queen

I Like Chopin - Gazebo

Marcus

I'm reading this thread with my fingers over my eyes, like a kid in a horror movie!!!

(oops -- muskrat love? DON'T THINK!!! you light up my life?? QUIET!!!)

I settled on quoting this because THANK GOD, I don't even KNOW any of these!!!

I must admit to a fondness for the maligned Donovan songs on this thread, however!!!

"ee - lec - trickle bo - NANN -a

zbound to be the very next crayayaze"

No Donovan, no "Mountain Jam".

No Donovan, no "Season of the Witch" (Do people still remember SUPER SESSIONS?)

No Donovan, no "Wear Your Love Like Heaven" during those hip Yardley commercials on The Monkees.

Donovan is underrated.

Here's another: "Hungry Like the Wolf" by that pile-of-crap band Duran Duran.  One of the most obnoxious pop songs ever.

Yeah, that band had a string of "contenders"....

Let's not start picking on Duran Duran. Just because she dumped you for a Simon LeBon lookalike all those years ago doesn't give you the right to...ya know...!

Duran Duran was/is actually a good band. But in the early 80s their image ruined their rep. God's honest truth...
