  1. Actually, it premiered on Dutch television last Thursday (23rd) at 23:00. I didn't think there was anything shown that should embarrass Sonny. People interviewed included: Sonny's brother, Clifton Anderson, Mark Soskin, Bob Cranshaw, Richard Corsello (engineer), Garry Giddins.
  2. I'll wait for 2015. My CD Japan cart is full of items Santa needs to get me before they go OOP.
  3. It went for $102.50 after five bids, a good price. Only the $40+ international shipping would have been prohibitive.
  4. Going for just over £30 at Amazon at the moment. Can anyone say whether it's worth the money? No, and I'd bet a toe on that.
  5. I'm fifty pages in, and Ligotti leans mostly on the work of a Norwegian philosopher, Peter Wessel Zapffe. Tolstoy is discussed later on in a chapter titled Sick to Death: "However, downcast readers must be on their guard. Phony retreats have lured many who treasure philosophical and literary works of a pessimistic, nihilistic, or defeatist nature as indispensable to their existence. Too often they have settled into a book that begins as an oration on bleak experience but wraps up with the author slipping out the back door and making his way down a shining path, leaving downcast readers more rankled than they were before entering what turned out to be only a façade of ruins, a trompe l'oeil of bleakness. A Confession (1882) by Leo Tolstoy is the archetype of such a book."
  6. One of the disappointing Errol Garner samples has been removed from Soundcloud since your post from 19 October.
  7. More than a few people seem to be asking that question these days. Don't be fooled. The Catholic church is a cancer.
  8. Thomas Ligotti - The Conspiracy Against the Human Race This book inspired Nic Pizzolatto when writing detective Rust Cohle's lines for True Detective. There have been claims of plagiarism.
  9. A new documentary about Sonny Rollins just aired on Dutch television. I think this was discussed here a while ago? (A quick search didn't turn up anything.)
  10. Thank you for your efforts. Tiring and too trebly are also my objections to the new Warners. For me the eight titles I bought were unlistenable.
  11. I hope to finish my second viewing of season 2 tonight. Ta-ta.
  12. Not saying I think it's the best I've heard of him, but I love Reggie Workman on Off Season from David Murray Quartet - Morning Song.
  13. You are now a participant in the true public beta test of Yosemite.

    Anthony Braxton

Any word on the following? 3 Compositions (EEMHM) 2011, a 3-CD set documenting Braxton’s newest composition system, Echo Echo Mirror House Music, featuring Braxton’s long-running septet with Taylor Ho Bynum (brass), Jessica Pavone (viola), Mary Halvorson (guitar), Jay Rozen (tuba), Carl Testa (bass) and Aaron Siegel (percussion) to be released from Firehouse 12 Records.
  15. The funny thing is, I've been told by a longtime fan of the books and first three films (Manhunter, Silence & Hannibal) the excessive gore was off-putting. Of course, this not being a literal adaptation and not having the author's participation (like e.g. Game of Thrones) is another major stumbling block for such geeks.
  16. Oops, I missed that whole discussion. (Previous post now deleted.)
  17. I'm glad you changed your mind about Hannibal. Mads Mikkelsen is a far superior Hannibal. I agree about this being one of the best shows ever.
  18. A different seller (jazzrecordcenter, 100% rating), but here is a 'like new' Cecil Taylor Mosaic, numbered 21. Bidding starts at $75, no PayPal. Five days to go. eBay
  19. That was me. I have the quartet complete studio set from 2012 and in the booklet producer Richard Seidel mentions a live set. Quote:"... in addition to his studio work with his quartet, made several live recordings in club and concert settings during this period. Those live performances will comprise a projected future Monk collection in Columbia/Legacy's Complete Album series."
  20. I'm happy for you. Almost three months ago I bought a mint copy numbered 39 from bluenotesound. I was anxious this would be the final copy he had on offer. I guess the well has not completely dried up yet? The bidding started at $124.99 and a Taylor set of his one auction before me ended up selling for that price. My winning bid was $162.50. The bluenotesound Taylor auction after me ended at $160. Can I ask you what you ended up paying for your copy? Were you lucky enough to be the only bidder?
  21. Who wrote the notes to the Miles set? I assume the page below is correct, if so Kirk Silsbee. http://www.allmusic.com/album/take-off-the-complete-blue-note-albums-mw0002642751/credits Never read anything by him. (Of course, I should have visited allmusic.com for this information.)
  22. The SHMs of this material sounded very good, even better than the RVGs. So, a cheaper way of getting the new transfers. Who wrote the notes to the Miles set? Oops, sorry. I reposted with a quote of your post.
  23. "Thelonious Monk's first recordings in the late 1940s were for Blue Note Records and they signaled a new kind of Blue Note as the label was evolving from an outlet for boogie woogie and old time jazz into a flag-waver for hard bop. These recordings, which include the first version of Monk's classic composition, 'Round Midnight' (originally known as 'Round About Midnight'), were released on a series of fifteen 78 RPM singles. Later, Monk's sessions were re-compiled on 10-inch and 12-inch LPs, and this collection will present for the first time Monk's Blue Note recordings in their original 78 RPM sequence of release, adding as bonus tracks the alternate takes that appeared on later LP and CD releases. In addition, 'Round Midnight includes nine tracks not available on any current reissues of Monk's albums." Just the 8 tracks with Monk from Milt Jackson's Wizard of the Vibes or something never before released?
  24. Sorry for The Gipper he won't make it to season 2. He couldn't remember his trigger if his life depended on it.
