  1. Those Palo Alto recordings are great. He did much wonderful work. This music depends on non musicians being involved.
  2. Tomorrow: Joe Locke at the Kitano w/ Robert Rodriguez, Terreon Gully, Ricky Rodriguez and Rosario Giuliani.
  3. I have this one: I haven't listened to it in ages, but as I remember, it's pretty fine in a non-Oregon kind of was because of Seifret's fire. Tracks 1. Violin (Group Improvisations) 2. Serenade (Raph Towner) 3. Raven´s Wood (Ralph Towner) 4. Flagolet (Glen Moore) 5. Friend of the Family (Ralph Towner) ZBIGNIEW SIFERT violin PAUL McCANDLESS oboe, bass clarinet GLEN MOORE bass COLLIN WALCOTT tabla, percussion, piano on (4) RALPH TOWNER 12-string and classical guitars, piano on (3) VANGUARD VMD 79397 - UV 040
  4. He could have used a shutter cable, which means he could ave been standing.
  5. For that reason, I recommended the Live In Tokyo recording. Jackson and Gadd kick him in the butt and keep the motion goin'.
  6. Thanks Jim, so I don't repeat myself with the same information!
  7. Good alternative choices, Justin.
  8. When you hear him live (he'll be here in a couple of weeks) there is a essence of Bird in his sound. That alone is pretty cool. Some of his stage presentation is a bit corney, though.
  9. I was in a room with Vinnie and Danny once. Kind of like the Mongoose and the Cobra! The video is from 1965 and was posted on YouTube by Vinnie's son Charles, who is also a drummer in NYC. Those are upstate bebop chops by all, there!
  10. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0gtCbRIBfo#t=65 I forget how to share a video, but he is Vinnie with a Chuck Mangione bebop band which includes Tony Levin on bass and Gerry Niewood on alto.
  11. Maybe Avantone speakers will do the job, but I'm not a expert. Does Scott have a opinion?
  12. Nasheet Waits is a real sound innovator. A rare artist. I'd go just to hear him, in any group.
  13. I have a soft spot for those recording, especially "The Country Preacher".
  14. He's from this Area, so the news is doubly shocking. He was one of those actors that if you saw his name linked to a film, you kew at least his part would be great.
  15. Looks interesting - I'll wait until it gets a bit cheaper, though. Strange to see Idris as a Mardi Gras Indian. Is he the only Muslim Indian, I wonder? MG Hey, he's from New Orleans! The book is great. I suggest his recordings with George Coleman like Live at Yoshi's.
  16. You should buy his book:http://www.idrismuhammad.com/buy.htm

Wasn't Henry Hey included also on keyboards? I thought that was strange, but he posted a photo on his Facebook page showing Keezer on stage in Miami.
  18. The McDonalds ay 160 Broadway in the Financial District has had live piano/bass duos for years, but I hear from Ron McClure, who has the gig for a long time, that's ending now.
