Some photos of Buster: with Herbie Hancock & Billy Hart I'm sure that many of you have already seen it, but I'd be remiss if I didn't recommend Buster's documentary: Buster Williams Bass to Infinity.

Managed to get out to see Gary on Wed. night, even though the weather was pretty lousy. It was a very small crowd - maybe 20 people, but they played their hearts out anyway. Will be going back on Sat. and the vibe will surely be livelier.

Chico Freeman - Peaceful Heart, Gentle Spirit (Contemporary, 1980) I recently bought some new speakers, and this is one of the LPs that I brought to the hi-fi shop to the try out various models. I know this LP inside-out, and the AQ is outstanding.

This is a very specific thread.

There doesn't appear to be a thread dedicated to the great bassist Buster Williams, so I've decided to start one. Over the last month or two, I've been on a big Buster kick, listening to his recordings both as a leader and sideman. He's got such an immaculate swing feeling. And that totally distinctive tone! Whenever Buster appears on a record, he elevates those around him. Just for kicks, I compiled a list of some of my favorite records that feature Buster in a sideman role. From the start of my radio career when we mastered to reel, I simply understood 15 inches per second is the tape equivalent of higher resolution digital: More tape = more data, essentially.

Eugene Chadbourne – Volume One: Solo Acoustic Guitar An idle stream. I'm not sure whether it is worth much more than that. As a kid I remember Chadbourne's name being everywhere.

Up, to go with the other (current) Simmons thread. Simmons and Donald, musically, were a dream team.

There was a Japanese mini-LP edition (compact disc) of The Cry that was available for about three seconds in the early 2000's. It's one of the best-sounding compact discs I own. Howard Holzer recorded the session (as Roy DuNann had recently left Contemporary, I think). We still need Rumasuma to come out on compact disc...or vinyl. I almost never purchase vinyl these days, but I'd jump on a copy of Rumasuma. C'mon Instagram hipsters, get it reissued! 😁 There aren't too many records from the 60's or 70's with Simmons and Barbara Donald together. Off the top of my head, I can only think of five. (Two ESP's, two on Contemporary, and one on Arhoolie.) Maybe there are more?
