November 8 Eric Harland - 1976 I saw him at the Göttingen Jazz Festival on November 7th and 8th, 2009, first on stage and then in the basement. He joined Chris Potter and Jason Moran for a spontaneous birthday jam session that lasted until four in the morning ...

I have Close But No Cigar, I Told You So, and Live at KEXP, all quite good. I have not had the good fortune to see him live yet.

Those who like "West Coast Jazz" will certainly want this delightful 2 CD set. It features a very wide range of most of the musicians who were important in that time period in California.

I saw George Coleman at the Ragattabar in Cambridge, MA last night. At 90, George is having mobility issues but he can still blow that horn. - Today

Saw Mike Murley and Pat LaBarbera with Neil Swainson(!) at the Rex, playing the music of Joe Henderson. Neil of course played with Joe, and apparently Pat studied with Joe for a few years in the 70s. Joe even asked Pat to join his band, but on bass clarinet, and Pat declined. Anyway, it was a very good couple of sets, ending in a rousing version of In N' Out. Neil and Terry Clarke are playing with Kirk MacDonald at the end of the month at the Jazz Bistro and I'll try to make one of those sets as well. -
