  1. Past hour
  2. Oh, definitely better than Phoenix. Like light years better.
  3. Grover Washington Jr - Winelight
  4. That's good. The last two times I was in the states was Chicago, which, exploration wise, is more or less like a European city, and Phoenix, which... wasn't. I'd assumed that San Diego would have been more like the latter, so that's good to know.
  5. I had forgotten this was the first RCA release by Desmond, putting him in a much different setting than a quartet setting, probably a smart move but time has proven this to be less discussed than those that followed on RCA. I like this though, and yet. . . even with Jim Hall. . . I miss the blend of Desmond and Brubeck, it’s like sweet and sour, or just the right blend of spices in a curry. Paul Desmond “Desmond Blue” RCA/Legacy cd (from the Complete RCA Albums box set)
  6. Fascinating stuff in moderate doses. I have the symphony in this -
  7. CD's been repressed. I just went for it.
  8. Today
  9. Wasn't it all out previously on Theresa LP's and Evidence CD's?
  10. How about the Bay Area? Thanks!
  11. I'm all too familiar with that. Public transport there was good the last time I went. Buses were dependable and the drivers were friendly when help was needed but that was all pre COVID.
  12. There are some interesting recordings on the Entropy Stereo label. I recently discovered Griot Galaxy / Faruq Z Bey, so much of the catalog got my attention. I noticed these on DG's website but ordered direct from the label, which has free shipping on CDs. Their website is worth perusing: https://entropystereo.com/catalog.html (Griot Galaxy Live at the DIA - 2 cd)
  13. You should be fine. The LP set will likely disappear before the cd set.
  14. A few years ago, my son picked up this album in a thrift store and then gave it to me: LP 1
  15. Thanks. It will be work and the usual dread conference centre that follows these things in some US cities, but I'm hoping to get out and about.
  16. Understood on all counts. It's just that in terms of contexts, that cut is a bit of an outlier?
  17. Been to SD several times and love it (Point Loma seafood is excellent) but never record shopped. I see online they seem to have some good places. Hopefully accessible during your visit.
  18. Prompted by @jazzbo's post above: The Complete Blue Note Recordings of Art Blakey's 1960 Jazz Messengers (Mosaic, 1992) Disc 3: This disc contains (most of) the tracks released on Roots & Herbs, along with a few others.
  19. Red Garland, Ron Carter, Philly Joe Jones
  20. Yes, and it sounds really good in this UHQCD version. Now Helen Merrill “Casa Forte” Mosaic cd
  21. Your wife has good ears! I may have purchased a pair of Magnepan speakers if circumstances were different. They do indeed sound amazing. But, since they are so large, they really don't fit in my room.
