Yes, "Call Me Darling" is missing though it's in the booklet's discography and discussed in the notes. But where did you get the list you cite? Also my Apple Music player says there are 24 cuts on the disc, the last being "Error-short repeat of Kansas City Stride". Fortunately I have "Call Me Darling" on VJC-1018 which Mosaic lists as their source. Old age is catching up with me. I figured it out just as I turned on my computer to read responses.

If anyone is interested, I have some digitized live broadcasts of Ken Peplowski that are not commercially issued: Hotel Four Queens, Las Vegas 8/2/1993 Newport Jazz Festival with Evan Christopher and Anat Cohen 8/4/2012

I read his autobio, "Three Dog Nightmare: The Chuck Negron Story". He had a tough life, battling drug addiction, but finally overcoming it. Besides being a vocal star, he also had a college basketball career at Cal State. in LA.

I'm devastated. First the guy gets cancer at an early age, overcomes it, and then dies of a heart attack at 66? I played on two albums with him, and used to drive him to gigs, because he didn't have a car back then. I idolized the guy, and when he walked up to me and told me that he liked the way I play during one gig, I was on cloud nine. Most guys that double don't master BOTH instruments, but he was frightening on BOTH clarinet and sax. As jazzbo said, he was a true 'keeper of the flame' as he showed on his many albums for Concord. What a great loss for jazz. RIP, Kenny...

I'm not familiar with the Berklee controversy. But the venue only holds 100 people, and he did 2 shows. I went to the second show and it was nearly full, for whatever that's worth.

That's it -
How was the attendance? I know he stopped touring for a while due to the Berklee controversy. It will be interesting to see if he tours the Boston area again.

You can definitely hear the Jimmy Scott influence here, splendidly so.

👌 Agreed on all accounts. (I've listened to the McIntyre but don't own it.) It's a great sub-series.

Red's debut, which many members here likely have. Wynton Kelly's playing is especially beautiful on this record. The liner notes state that Red's full name is: Junior Sylvester Kyner.

V-Disc Big Band Set Is Coming!!!
Big Beat Steve replied to JSngry's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
15 records that yield a total of 30 to 60 tunes (i.e. 2 to 4 per disc), that makes sense indeed. So 40 to 60 tunes would make "about 2.5 on average" to 4 per disc. A possible total too. -

Here is the quote in question. I think it is likely Janak meant the 15 records or 30 sides all together had 40-60 tunes. -

Wasn't 16" the typical diameter of transcription discs for radio use? -

Which ones were 16" then? I mistakenly thought all V-Discs were that size. -

SIXTY tunes on ONE disc? That cannot have been the actual discs. I am no expert on these at all but AFAIK most often the V-Discs had 4 tunes per record (sometimes only 2, sometimes 3). That's what the discographies say, and that's what is on the handful of original V-Discs that I have. They all play at 78 rpm. -
