  1. Past hour
  2. GRP was a weird label. You never knew if you were getting smooth jazz or just plain jazz, even if the artists involved were skewered one way or the other. This looks like a good one though.
  3. I wasn't sure where to put this, but The Times had an article on him which was probably taken from this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Byrd Phil Woods even recorded one of his songs.
  4. Another live one from Evans' trio with Gomez & Morell:
  5. Today
  6. That looks like a nice one. Found a cheap copy on discogs and ordered.
  7. Classical Jazz Quartet - Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker (Vertical Jazz). Stefon Harris (vibes), Kenny Barron (piano), Ron Carter (bass) & Lewis Nash (drums). Very well done.
  8. I particularly like some of Kenny Kirkland's piano on this one.
  9. Anybody in the Los Angeles area looking for the big 21-LP box set? Record Surplus has it for sale. Booklet and OBI, it's a Japanese import Chris wanted to sell if $50
  10. No idea what the science is, but I have corrected innumerable glitchy CDr s (and regular CDs) simply by ripping them on my PC. Not always, but mostly Where you hit a wall is if there's any irregularity, even a pinhole, in the reflective surface on the top of the disc. That's game over. Aftermarket self-applied labels are especially insidious that way. Avoid at all costs!

    Donald Byrd

Grooves harder than the Mizell-produced studio albums.
  12. A warm day–55 degrees right now! I was outside doing a few chores, and Lucinda had a PT appointment we went to. Finally I get to sit down in front of the system for a bit. I dug this 2 cd set out this week to listen to, it’s been a while. A killer band. . . I sort of think the two synth players are a bit unnecessary, but if Stan wanted them why not. Supposedly the last recorded concert for Stan. Stan Getz “The Final Concert Recording” Eagle cd disc 1
  13. Sasha Berliner & co.

    Donald Byrd

    I like both Byrds
  15. Now: Earlier: Both with the long-standing trio of Eddie Gomez and Marty Morell
  16. Not at all to my taste. I will gladly stick with Byrd's albums I like such as: "The Cat Walk" and "Byrd In Flight", to name just 2 from the many he made in the '50's and '60's.
  17. If you would like to watch a GOOD horror movie (hard to find) ... watch this one ! It's flawless, well-constructed, no nonsense, and most important: SCARY
  18. Ts-find, after a first listen i would say it's underrated ...
