Carla Bley tribute/cover album. I'd never heard of Lluís Vidal. Check out Vidal's version of "Ida Lupino" in particular. Interesting spin.

The Danish Collector's Classics series of compact discs often use John R.T. Davies transfers, which are very good.

It's interesting to see how Dusty Groove, for example, prices used OJC titles. Some titles that I think would have a higher price point don't. The converse is also true. Used Jackie McLean OJC titles on DG sell for above original retail. Japanese RVGs sell for much higher.

Yes, Cullum was the real deal, as was his Dad I've heard. I saw Cullum several times, twice at The Landing, once with Peanuts Hucko which was one helluva night of jazz. -

For those who live in the DFW area, noting that Windmills in the Colony is becoming much more active as a music club. In January, they have the Delvon Lamarr Trio for two nights, clarinetist Ken Peplowski for two nights, and brazilian jazz artist Hamilton de Holanda for one night. https://www.windmills-usa.com/#music -

This one fell through the cracks for me, and I was late in the game to pick it up, but glad I did.

I agree about the Artisan series and that is why I decided to pass on the 2 Sun R reissues (Jazz By Sun Ra Vol 1 & Vol 2) when they were first put out as part of the SAM records Artisan series. As much as I like Sun Ra, I could not justify paying $150 for each album just because it had a premium sleeve and was limited to 500 copies. I was surprised and very happy when SAM Records decided to later release the 2 Sun Ra records in a regular (non-Artisan series) release with a non-premium sleeve and a price 1/3 of the price of the Artisan series release. The sleeve on the regular release is still very nice and the music sounds the same on the regular release as it does on the Artisan series release (same mastering cut by Kevin Gray).
