  4. There are many sellers I see on discogs that will not ship to the US. It's going to be a dry spell for a bit.
  5. BTW The person who solved the mystery was James Accardi. I should have cited him in my last post.

  8. I have always used FEDEX or DHL. Why wouldn't CD Japan continue to ship orders to me in the US by DHL even with the tariff? As I understand it, the foreign vendor, CD Japan, has nothing to do with collection of that tariff. The tariff is charged at the time of customs clearance in the US. It is the US importing company, in this case-me, that is charged and pays the tariff. For items shipped by DHL from Japan, US customs or perhaps DHL (but not CD Japan) would contact me to collect the tariff. At that point, who contacts me and the process for that payment is unclear (to me and perhaps DHL). If I do not pay the tariff (to US customs or anybody else, e.g., DHL), the item would be set aside by US customs as unclaimed. If so, CD Japan should not be concerned since it would have already collected the sale price and the shipping cost for DHL from me (given that, perhaps DHL will not be concerned about any confusion about collection of the tariff). In the end, on an order for say 10 cds, if a cd from CD Japan will cost me $15 plus, on average, $2-3 for shipping, and also $3-4 for the tariff (assuming 20%), and taking into account any additional hassles due to the tariff, e.g., the tariff payment process, delay, can I get that cd from another source for less money? Undoubtedly Cd Japan will probably lose business (including mine) because of the tariff.
  9. More Pee Wee Russell: My LP is a Barnaby reissue.
  10. Albert Ayler Quartet: The Hilversum Session. Coppens CCD 6001 [Netherlands 1989] Personnel: Albert Ayler (ts), Don Cherry (co), Gary Peacock (b), Sunny Murray (dr)
  11. I become less of a fan of Oliver Nelson as time goes by, but I LOVE Pee Wee Russell. 250×250 24.1 KB
  12. Thanks. But that link implies that cdjapan is still shipping to USA via Fedex/DHL, while temporarily suspending Japan Post shipping. I've always used Fedex/DHL, so it's confusing. Although I've shelved order plans until the tariff situation clarifies.
  13. Cd Japan on Japan Post: https://www.cdjapan.co.jp/info/20200401
  14. thanks, this is all super interesting, I really like the piano playing in this session, so good to know it's Eark Knight ... (and Jesse Drakes is really good, too). Still, curious where Buchmann-Moller got his information... He wrote that Young's manager Charlie Carpenter organized the band with Kelly, Bell and Abrams for Young so that it was ready after he got back from a JATP tour... the Buchmann-Moller book was in excerpts on archive.org... the Ambrosia disc I got from a local shop which I knew had two or three of them... "Dan Morgenstern's notes for some Lester Young box" I had misremembered, it was Dan Morgenstern's Lester Young discography in the 1973 Downbeat yearbook here on p.52, based on Jepsen...
  15. McCoy Tyner - Focal Point (Milestone, 1976)
  16. Marilyn Crispell does a phenomenal solo piano version, which was itself the inspiration for Joe McPhee's gorgeous solo soprano rendition that was recorded playing into the old Village Gate piano that McCoy Tyner once performed on:
  17. When US tariffs were first announced (months ago), cdjapan sent out informational email to customers stating that tariffs were not a factor (which they were not at the time due to continuation of de minimis). I expect cdjapan to send out the updated status as soon as they get sufficient clarity from authorities (not holding my breath).
  18. Now spinning: Norman Connors - Love from the Sun (Buddah, 1974)
  19. Just got this from Bandcamp and Cadillac Records: This one is for our American friends. Because of the imposition of duty and the advance in the date of the minimum cost that duty is paid just bought in by the US goverment there may be some delay in sending orders. We have this advice from the Post Office here: From 29th August 2025 US customs requirements are changing. We’re temporarily withdrawing existing services to the USA on Tuesday 26 August 2025. We're planning for our USA postal delivery duties paid (PDDP) services, which meet new customs requirements, to be available to customers online and in Post Offices from Thursday 28 August 2025. So all things being well, there will only be a few days disruption. We are also being advised that "informational recordings" (including music) are exempt from tarrifs - we'll be trying to follow the protocols so that US customs don't add duty to our packages.
