  2. These DJ mixes released by Blue Note Japan in the late 90s were a nice introduction to all the samples that had been used on rap songs.

  4. I like him and enjoy the stuff with Dizzy. I used to love those tv themes like Mannix but am not sure I want to go the whole 16 disks. What are his best jazz albums? Is this euro-compilation good?
  5. Ben Allison Tell the Birds I Said Hello: The Music of Herbie Nichols Sonic Camera cd With Steve Cardenas and Ted Nash Beautiful!
  6. I like that album (Blank Canvas).
  7. I own the 5 CD version of this from 2016, which focuses on his 60's Verve releases (9 LP on 5 CD IIRC). Interesting listen, though not life-changing. I have no interest in 16 CD version which stretches into the 21st century, though neither version should break the bank in terms of $ per disc.
  8. Ok, will do. I'll prob work on it this weekend and hopefully put it in the mail by Monday/Tues.
  9. I love that idea! I was going to step in if nobody else did, but June or July work much better for me, so if you're up for it, that would be stellar!
  10. If we don't have any one for April yet I can throw something together and hopefully get it in by fools' day. Has anyone else signed up?
  11. You might be right, there is something a little off with them. But overall I like her take on the songs themselves. Apparently she's also done an ELO covers album and also one for Olivia Newton John, as artists she looked up to when she was younger or something. I haven't heard those.
  12. Now spinning: Oliver Lake - Gallery (Gramavision, 1986) Alto Saxophone, Soprano Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, Flute – Oliver Lake Piano – Geri Allen Bass – Fred Hopkins Drums – Pheeroan akLaff
  13. It could definitely have worked out with some more preparation. I think Rivers’ more aggressive free approach would work pretty well with Mals dark clusters

    Rare Blue Notes

You can adjust any physical part of a mouthpiece, tip opening, lay, chamber, any of it.
  15. For some very odd reason, I just got an itching to listen to him more. Does anyone have this? Worth it? Looking around it seems there might be some smaller box sets of his work. And I have a stupid related question... Given his output, why didn't he do the Bond movie soundtracks? I mean I know the opening songs often got high profile pop stars (e.g., Billie Eilish, Shirley Massey, Sheena Easton, etc.) but it would have been an interesting mix. Thanks.
  16. It took me a long time to find an affordable copy of Belden's "Princejazz". It's seems to be pretty rare.
  17. I don't consider that unusual by DG standards. I often check their "CD Deals" page and find a variety of Blue Notes, Prestige, OJC, ... Here's a link to today's (12 Mar 2026) deals, many from the above labels on the first page: https://www.dustygroove.com/new-cds-under-9
