What Classical Music Are You Listening To?

Strange coincidence ... I'll be giving myself the Kenton biography "This Is An Orchestra" by Michael Sparke for Christmas, and when reading it will no doubt delve into the "Artistry In Rhythm" bio by William F Lee too that came into my possession a couple of months ago (I haven't tackled that one yet, although glancing through it I have some misgivings - e.g. about how contemporary press coverage is worked into it, and excessively quoted at length). But I now did print out that Guardian writeup about Leslie Kenton's book as well and filed it in the Lee biography "for permanent reference". This thread from 2010 had in fact slipped my mind, and the link in the opening post is dead anyhow. So thanks for posting this, Andrea! (Though admittedly I am not sure I'd want to get the book - yet ...)

Discographical information about recording dates on jazz releases.
Big Beat Steve replied to John L's topic in Discography
Yes, that's quite possible. I was just "echoing" and confirming what John L said about discographical information being available throughout for what had been released previously. -
Agreed. Black Is The Color contains one of my very favorite Henderson solos—on "Vis-A-Vis":

What Christmas music are you playing?
Holy Ghost replied to The Magnificent Goldberg's topic in Miscellaneous Music
It's been a family tradition to see them in concert, but tickets sold out pretty quickly this year, so we missed the show. Great guys. Last year I sketched the concert on canvas and the band signed it. Pretty cool experience. If my phone cooperates with my email, I'll post it. -

Interesting, didn't know he did. Couldn't find any images of John Tchicai in makeup.

Power to the People and In Japan are obviously exceptionally good, but I’ve been listening to some of the other later Milestones and they’re also quite enjoyable. Joe had a combo of great sound and great ideas and was willing to make the most out of any setting into which he was placed. And the settings on those albums are generally quite good if not always great.

Why omit the three wonderful Muse sides? Plus, add the Joken album to sweeten the pot for Kenny! If Kenny wrote or assisted with the essay, you get an exponential increase in visibility!

I don't know that there's even a glass left to begin with...but I'm trying to consider all possibilities. Fifty years is a long time... Black Capitalism is both Black and Capitalism, so...multiple options for interpretation here, imo.

As "Streets the Clown," yes. John Tchicai also painted his face in the 1960s.
